Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of using mercury in the processing of 12L14 into raw stock? We are having an issue of high levels of mercury in the discharge from a vibratory finisher.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

There is no mercury used in the menufacture or processing of this grade of steel. It is even very difficult to keep the lead addition in the steel when it is added because it boils off so rapidly, so even if mercury were a contaminent of the scrap addition, it would be expelled in the refining process. I would search elsewhere for the source of the mercury.
