12 htz pulse control

I have a solonoid I need to run at 12v & 12 htz & I would like to manually control pluse width. What do I need to do this? I am new to electronics, so an extra explanation is welcome.

Is the 12 Hz free running or do you have to synchronize it to something ? Start/stop ? What is the range of pulse width?

How accurate must be the 12 Hz ?

How much is the relay current ( or resistance )?
