I have a few weeks to prepare for an interview, and also just want to learn about the fascinating subject. What is a short list of the best books on efficient (lean) manufacturing strategy and history? I want to hear the stories of Toyota, Boeing, Ford, and GM that I wasn't taught or didn't pay...
We are indeed using Y14.5M-1994. We have composite positional dims, a surface profile (which the inspector cant meet), and radii and angles at the bends. I suggested making a datum plane at the center of the u-shape instead of one at each end of the shape, but others here didn't like that. So we...
I have been tasked with learning to dimension sheet metal using GD&T. In the past, there have been conflicting suggestions from the fabricators and the inspector on how to dimension the features, bends, and surfaces of the sheet metal part. In your opinion, what is the best way to dimension a...
I have set my company template files in the Creation Options so that they all show up when I scroll over File > New. I can click New and choose what file I want from the pop up menu, and the templates open just fine. However, if I just scroll over New and click the file I want in the menu that...
My workplace has the habit from long ago of putting draft file notes as text boxes inside of a blank drawing view. It supposedly makes it easier to align everything and keep the formatting consistent. No one can figure out how to make one of these blank views in ST3, we can only copy and paste...

I read this thread from last year because I was searching for the same answer. I wanted to elaborate on the subject because the information was not easy to find. First, when you create font, placement, and column settings for a parts list using the "Parts List Properties"...
We are thinking of asking our techs to store torque wrenches on the lowest torque setting. The manufacturer recommends this because they say it makes the spring last longer. Isn't this trade off though? There will be more load cycles if we keep destressing and then restressing the tool internal...
I am getting thrown around in loops trying to find out what has superseded my list of specs. What is the difference between a QQ-A-### spec and an SAE AMA QQ-A-### spec with the same number designation? They have different revision letters and different superseding documents.
If an AMS spec is cancelled, does that mean I should use the previous revision, or not use that spec at all? I understand that if a spec is superseded, I would need to use the superseding spec, but some specs are cancelled but not superseded.
Examples:
Spec: AMS QQ-P-35...
I am very new to engineering/specs. I just started working for a company who has chosen not to include spec revision letters on drawings (to keep them from becoming obsolete). I need to come up with a way to keep track of what revision a drawing originally intended AND what current specs would...
