    I believe there are other parameters you have to change as well. such as major diameter, pitch, minor diameter and shaft size. I looked at the UN/UNJ thread data and used the equations to make my own threads. The NX threads are nominal and have no use to the manufacturing world.

    I think when they mention "Part Families" they mean going to tools->Part Families to create a spreadsheet to create other files. The term "Family of parts" in industry just means a style of parts that are pretty similar to each other.

    I used to inspect airfoils with CMM's and 100% of the time siemens, pratt, rolls royce, and GE all wanted point data as airfoil sections. If that is the case then I would use the spline tool and mesh the surface. PW Airfoil from Pratt was a great tool for doing this automatically if you have it.

    http://www.nxjournaling.com/ is the best resource I found to understand the NX open library. It does seem possible to make a journal to do what your saying, but NX has modeling tools that are probably better suited.
