Firstly, make sure you have a good ECR setup.
We have basically and assembly(ENG) directory and a component(CMP) directory, and some specialized types of component (gaskets, hardware etc) directories.
File names are formatted such as CMP-0001(A), drawings are kept in the same directory with...
Trying to future proof your machine is usually a bad idea. By the time you feel like you want to add an extra graphics card to SLI, your existing hardware will all be obsolete. Its always cheaper to buy upper-mid range hardware and completely replace most of it every few years. Buy 2nd Tier...
Raid 0 only provides faster speed for sustained file transfers, for burst reads it can actually be slower, also depending on your raid controller you have system resources taken up. For the small amount of disk access Solidworks does (especially if you don't use large assemblies) its completely...
Don't Raid 0, its a stupid idea. You will not see any real world performance increase. Anyone that tells you differently is MISINFORMED. Do your research.
Solidworks is a single threaded application that does mostly linear calculations. Having multiple cores is not helpful but doing quick...
Simple solution, add a camera.
In the add camera dialog you get a 2UP view, one of the usual workspace and another from the cameras POV. Just drag the camera inside your part and rotate around.
Can anyone link me to a nice explanation of the different options for the draft feature? I've been using draft feature for years, and I still don't really understand the nuances of taper/perpendicular step draft / parting line draft. I typically just go through various options until one has the...
I guess I might as well followup. I got the quadro fx 570 yesterday, and its like a new machine. Everything is much smoother, realview works correctly now, and a lot of my issues with selecting edges have disappeared. Well worth the money, my speed working has increased noticeably just because...
Is there any difference feature-wise between the photoview360 beta and this release?
I really only use 09 for photoworks and photoview360 at the moment.

there is also this low priced quadro, does anyone know of any resources to compared workstation cards? I have no idea what the performance difference between these 100 dollar cards and 400 dollar cards are.
The company i'm working for has a fast rig, but the videocard is an NVS piece of garbage. I'm tired of having seizures trying to select edges in solidworks, so I'm going to ask them to buy a new video card.

I've found the FireGL...
Spurs,
If you NEED to do engineering work you should expect to NEED a good workstation. Solidworks doesn't need to accommodate people running outdated consumer hardware. 1 Gig of ram is ridiculous when 4gigs costs less than 100 dollars, and is the most worthwhile upgrade you can make. Its the...
I get this all the time, try going to
Photoworks - > options - > [system options] -> enable memory settings
Also you can try rendering to file, and not to your screen.
Make sure you close all other memory intensive programs on your computer.
This is really annoying.
I setup a scene, usually an assembly containing another assembly, I assign all my materials, and tweak them. I have the option checked for store photoworks data in model, I setup my render perfectly, and schedule it.
When I schedule the render, it does a sort of pack...
Has anyone done something like this?
I run into a lot of problems, creating a flat pattern that will fold in solidworks is not really accurate to the flat pattern that would actually work in real life.
