Hi,
Just a heads up that although all the 2009 Beta's and pre-release 1 were acceptably good to work with, pre-release 2 in both the install and reliability - certainly for me - seems not of merchantable quality.
I personally would wait till the next version. Just my view. May be working...
From original part, insert design table.
Add the dimension you are interested in. The form will look something like this: Thickness@Sheet-Metal2
Insert design table into your drawing from drawing file by right clicking on view you created and inserting the design table. Better than a note...
Without seeing the part this might be a duff idea, but my first thoughts were try editing the features and untick "merge result" therefore creating a number of separate bodies.
Do your chamfer then "combine" the bodies.

I use Solidworks and truly believe that it is very strong in this area.
In actual fact, it just got stronger because with the 2009 release you can now create BOM's in assembly and multibody part files without having to create a drawing first.

1) With SW, you change the dimensions to alter the size. I suppose using one of the "Entities" varients would work, but it would be completely the wrong approach to take.
For a number of different varients, you make up configerations.
2) One of the "Entities" variations.
3) The Combine...
Modelling it will be a pain.
You mention FEA. If this is the primary aim, could a bit of lateral thinking create a really simple model to test. i.e. multiply up the strands?
I must confess I know as much about FEA as the first chapter of the Cosmos Works Designer manual, so this might be...
Just thought of another point that may help square this particular circle.
I used to have to pay a subscription to a specialist insurance computer software/hardware supplier. Their prices went ballistic, but they had us over a barrel so we had to pay. I looked up their accounts and my...
I can see you're point, but my view is that I like having the latest version and also like access to resources that improve my ability with the product.
I also genuinely think that a lot of effort has gone into the functionality of the SW product and that has cost money. I guess, that I may be...
I believe getting unlimited upgrades and a maintenance/tech support for the price I am paying is good value.
If I have a problem I e-mail or call and always get a prompt response. Access to the customer portal area inc forum has given me many tips and other info. I also get free web info via...
Just modelled it to test out 2009's new converting to sheet metal process, Photoview 360 and because I could not sleep!
Took 45 mins. Need to sort out 1 small overlap - which the sharp eyed amongst you will notice - this will take about 5 mins tops, but I am going to get some shut eye now as...
Have been using Solidworks 2009 for a month or so now and am at present using Pre-Release 1.
I think it is really good with new features like slot tool, easier dimensioning and Photoview 360 rendering to name but a few.
Still a few bugs. However Solidworks are making a massive effort to sort...
