    Pump Cavitation

Not really because we need to maintain a walking path on that side.

    Pump Cavitation

Picture speaks a thousand words. Please remenber this is not my configuration.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=035bfe2a-475f-4bd1-9b62-eea1fb67c6c8&file=IMG_0189.JPG

    Pump Cavitation

Thanks for the very productive response "BigInch". I understand this is not a optimal configuration. I am trying to remedy a problem with the least cost impact to the contractor/client. I am not the designer just trying to fix what was done. So, back to my quesition. Does anyone think a suction...

    Pump Cavitation

A few more details. 6" pipe on the inlet with basket stainer right at the suction flange of the pump, then about 1 foot of pipe with an elbow up. There are no reducers. The pump sounds if rocks are being pumped through it. I know this is not the case. I have calc'ed the NPSHA and NPSHR, and...

    Pump Cavitation

Thanks Johnny, This is what I was thinking as well. Do you have any comment whether a suction diffuser could help alleviate this condition? John

    Pump Cavitation

Could a short pipe length on the suction of an end suction pump cause it to cavitate? Would a suction diffuser help this condition if so?

    M. Eng program in UMD

I think an MBA or JD is actually more important, especially when you get into the management side of the business. In my opinion, masters in engineering goes better with reasearch type positions.

Latent Heat gain for hot showers

lojack1. Actually that equation accounts only for the sensible load. You need to take into account latent load as well. Total load BTUH = 4.45 x CFM x delta h. Also you would want to cool down further than 75 beacause you won't do any dehumidification. I live in hot hutimd climate and we cool...

    Lagoon Heat Rejection System

The lagoon is about 2 acres, and it is about 250 tons. However, becuase there is not much mixing in the lake the boundary of our heat rejection may be much less. Maybe only about 10,000-20,000 sqft.

    Lagoon Heat Rejection System

Sorry, I should have mentioned this is a man-made lagoon with no direct connection to the ocean, and is not affected by tides. I do not believe that there are significant currents that allow for mixing, therfore feel that our system may create a hot spot, allowing for short circuiting.

    Lagoon Heat Rejection System

I have a project that I am working on that the owner wants to utilize a lagoon adjacent to the site for a heat rejection system for residential heat pumps. We have been tasked in reviewing the proposed design/build. The project is in Hawaii so there are no real seasons. Also the lagoon is very...

    anti-condensation coating

Does anyone have any experience with aquaban anti-condensation coating? I have problem with sweating at air outlet which is in close proximity to a door. Any input would be appreciated.

    Coil Leaving Air Temperature

Yorkman, I will provide you this information on Monday

    Coil Leaving Air Temperature

Cooling coil is controlled by humidistat. The reheat coil is controlled by room temperature. Our room temperature is controlled nicely at setpoint. However, because the physicians like it nice and cold they crank the thermistat down to 67, which I'm sure you know will result in high RH. This is...

    Coil Leaving Air Temperature

Air flow cannot be slowed down due to ACH requirements for hospital. Coil is oversized and not currently operating to capacity. I figure by increasing flow we will decrease average coil temp, hence reducing supply air temp. This may be faulty logic, just wanted another opinion

    Coil Leaving Air Temperature

I have a condition where I require 52 degree coil leaving air temperature. We only have 47 degree chilled water supply temp and can not get it any colder. We are actually getting 55 degree coil leaving temperature. Will increasing flow to the coil, hence reducing delta across the coil, cool down...

    Inlet Plenums for AHUs

Anyone have any opinion on inlet plenums boxes? Are side connections to inlet plenums directly before filter boxes okay? I have a condition where we were not able to fit the ductwork otherwise, just wondering if anyone thinks this may be problematic. Any help is appreciated.

    steam and chilled water

These are not generally recommended unless you are using waste heat to make steam or you can get steam real cheap due to the inefficiencies of these type of machines.
