Selecting a Molder / The Right Questions to Ask

Without naming any names, I got a quote from someone that seems too good to be true. I am new to the plastic industry and this is a project I am working solo on. I have two questions: 1) Is there a forum with customer feedback somewhere? 2) What are the most important questions to ask the...

    Handling Manufacturing Drawing Workflow

It seems like our document management system does not allow ids like 1234-1000 op1. So we're kind of stuck with the individual part numbers. I think as long as there is a drawing tree and make from notes then how everything goes together is obvious.

    Handling Manufacturing Drawing Workflow

Thanks for the input. I just wanted to see if there was a way of doing it that I hadn't thought off.

    Handling Manufacturing Drawing Workflow

The situation is this: I start with a block of material that is machined in house. It is sent out for specialized machining to vendor A. Then it comes back and is sent for specialized machining to Vendor B. Then it comes back and is finished in house. What's the best way to handle this...

Erosional Velocity in Molybdenum and Tungsten/Copper-Infiltrated

Hi all, I'm trying to find resources discussing maximum fluid velocity of water in Moly or Tungsten. The actual tungsten material is 90% Tungsten infiltrated with 10% copper. So I'm considering limiting the fluid flow to copper limits for that material. Any references on either and if not, how...

2007 Sec. VIII Div 1 and 2 BPVC E-beam welds and Ultrasonic Inspection

edit: I see that lack of fusion is considered a planar flaw which supports using UT.

2007 Sec. VIII Div 1 and 2 BPVC E-beam welds and Ultrasonic Inspection

That's an interesting observation. Do you have any literature you can point me too, that backs that up? I read that UT is best suited for detecting planar flaws, while x-ray and UT are equally suitable for detecting volumetric flaws (see below). I suppose the thinking is that, you could...

2007 Sec. VIII Div 1 and 2 BPVC E-beam welds and Ultrasonic Inspection

Does anyone know why 100% ultrasonic inspection is mandated for e-beam welds?

ASME B&PV Section VIII, Division II, Weld Inspections

I am looking at 2007 with all the addenda. I see what your talking about. That is for category 3a and 3b welds, but that is only if the cavity is designed according to Div 2 Part 4 (Design by Rule); see table 7.1. I have a Div 2 Part 5 vessel. I think the answer to my question is that the code...

ASME B&PV Section VIII, Division II, Weld Inspections

I could make it with joint efficiencies less than 1. However, it looks like Div 2 doesn't allow that.

ASME B&PV Section VIII, Division II, Weld Inspections

I am trying to find if in Division II there are exceptions that allow me to be exempt from NDE on e-beam welds. I have data that shows repeatable quality welds but it looks like 100% Ultrasonic Testing is always required. Assume I am only talking about Category A, Circumferential welds.

Assigning a material property as a constant

Have you checked if the interlaminate shear strain is available as a user defined result?

Yes, look at the emodif and esel APDL commands.

About Ultrasonic Method and ANSYS Harmonic Simulation

Any analysis you perform should represent reality. How is the sonotrode held in the actual device?

ASME online B & PV code course for Sec VIII Div 2

Has anyone taken one of the web based courses from the ASME? If so, what did you think of it? My understanding is that the course is completely text based; it requires that you read through the material on your own. I am not sure if there is any added value compared to reading through the code...

PE Exam- Question about bringing Reference books

Thanks, there's still time for it to be useful.

PE Exam- Question about bringing Reference books

Never mind about this question.....I was reading guidelines for the FE exam. There are no restrictions on the PE.

PE Exam- Question about bringing Reference books

That's what I was thinking (hoping). Kind of pointless though, if you can bring your reference material in any thing.

PE Exam- Question about bringing Reference books

So it says that all personal items must be in a clear plastic bag. Does that go for reference books too? I'm thinking its gonna be a pain to find a clear backpack before Friday. I'm taking the exam in NY state.

Question on Equations for Calculating Forming Strains

Thank for for the reference jamesl. However, that paper is very difficult to find. Any suggestions on its location? The equation is perplexing to me since it the original diameter term is divided by the final diameter term. In the text mechanics of sheet metal forming, the strain is the natural...
