It's PFERD's CC Grind Solid (dumb name eh) but these little beauty's are bad ass. Matter of fact, while watching that video, my shop foreman walked in my office...
We did try a couple of the steel wheels, this one for example:
http://www.grainger.com/product/DIAMOND-X-Abrasive-Diamond-Blade-6TMN5?s_pp=false
And it was horrible. Slow and VERY loud. Dont get me wrong, this thing would probably be great in a stationary saw doing some production work of some...
Yes sir...we factored in changing the wheel time. Actually had 4 of us changed wheels, and averaged that time. Believe me, we crunched the numbers...and it became obvious that even a $5 dollar wheel that lasted 100 times longer than a $1 wheel is a no brainer. I forget the exact figure, but it...
Project began here:

And here are the results. All just FYI, but I found it interesting, and in the long run...a cost savings project for my company...
Thanks for the input...
So basically...In our attempt to find a good cut-off wheel, I have wasted a bunch of material! We are a mechanical piping contractor, and use grinders/wheels more than any other item...cutting run of mill pipe, structural stuff, threaded rod...padlocks...whatever the...
So the abrasive wheel "over-rides" the work hardening? Because, as I said, I'm getting the exact number of cuts out of similar diameter cs vs ss with the exact same wheel. It also seems to over-ride whatever hardness. That grade 8 bolt, in our minds, should have eaten up our wheel much quicker...
Few questions, if anyone can teach me something please. I work with this stuff everyday, but am confused on a few points.
1. What makes different steels harder to cut? And cut different ways. As in...I can zip through a pc of ss304 round rod with an abrasive disc, but takes quite a bit longer...
Thanks for the tips.
Im told the project manager is aware of the heating requirement. Follow up question, speaking of the project manager.
He says will be using ER80S-B2 for the chrome to chrome weld. Is this...ok? Thanks again.
Follow up:
Also, what wire would I use to weld P22 to regular A53 carbon steel?
Or...perhaps someone can post a link to a chart with this info. Thanks again.
Thanks for all the replies.
We are a small contractor with around 200 folks right now, and do indeed have a central warehouse of inventory and tools, along with a couple 'big' jobs with tool trailers and attendants. We also have several 'foreman trailers' pulled from job to job, all of which...
Excuse me if this isn't the proper forum for this topic, but I thought since some of you are probably construction managers, you might could help.
I'm the Buyer for a mid-size Mechanical Contractor in North Alabama. Along with jumping through hoops for our Engineers (sorry!) on a daily...
