    30" Swage/Transition Nozzle & Nozzle Reinforcement?

SnTMan, Thank you for responding with suggestions of where to look in Code Book. The requester finally comprehended that spending my time performing calc's for a part that may not even be available at a reasonable price was not the best use of anyone's time. GD2, Yes, I was given a task to...

    30" Swage/Transition Nozzle & Nozzle Reinforcement?

Vessel Material is Carbon Steel, the Design Code is ASME Section VIII, Div.1, and yes the Swage is to be welded. I was throwing this out there to see if anyone has ever come across a Swage Nozzle of this size. We can not use a 30 x 36 conc. reducer due to process flow requirements. The...

    30" Swage/Transition Nozzle & Nozzle Reinforcement?

Several questions below, Has anyone ever designed or fabricated a 30" Swage/Transition Nozzle? I've been directed to determine the minimum Vessel ID needed to attached a 30" 600# flange using a Swage/Transition Nozzle. I can narrow that down to 38" ID min., because that's needed to meet other...

    WASHER MATERIAL

My original post included an attachment showing the Swingbolt design. This design requires a washer to provide a surface for the Nut to seat against. Very Similar to a Tube Turns T-Bolt Closure. I've been questioned why we aren't providing washers made from materials listed in tables UCS-23 or...

    WASHER MATERIAL

What is the best way to determine what specification/s a washer needs to adhere to on an ASME Section VIII, Div.1 pressure vessel? Is there anywhere in Section VIII, Div.1 stating carbon steel washers SHALL be made from material listed in Table UCS-23 or Section II materials? The washer isn't...

SECT. VIII, DIV.1, APPENDIX 2, ROLLED RING HUBLESS, FIG. 2-4 SKETCH (8)

I have a question regarding whether or not a Flanges made from 3/4" Plate rolled into a Ring, used in a design rated for 500 PSI @ 200°F can be designed as a LOOSE Flange. Years ago we were directed to design all flanges used on designs with pressures greater than 300 PSI as an Optional...

    Mandatory Appendix-2-3 "G" value for O-Ring seal ?

I agree, but several other co-workers believe that when using an O-Ring seal "G" is equal to "Go". Please note my original post incorrectly stated 2-5(c)(2), it should have read, 2-5(c)(3) To support their belief they reference the information in our PV Elite Software printouts that state that...

    Mandatory Appendix-2-3 "G" value for O-Ring seal ?

When designing a flange with an O-Ring seal, which is 31" OD x 30.45" ID with a 0.275" C/S, should the "G" value be determined as stated in 2-3, or, should the "G" value = the OD of the O-Ring as noted in 2-5(c)(2). Example: If using the 2-3 definition of G, and assuming that "N" from table...

Parallel Tangential nozzles through the knuckle

Thank you for replies. After further review the customer has agreed to another nozzle layout that suits their needs for less cost.

Parallel Tangential nozzles through the knuckle

I'm looking for help with finding the proper way to calculate reinforcement for (2) 12" tangential nozzles that are going thru the knuckle of a 48" Ellip Head, into the shell & thru the head to shell seam, and are parallel to each other. One of the nozzles is set on and the other will project...

    Hollow Pipe Plugs

FYI..... I've found out that the plugs are coming from Bonney Forge. When I insisted we needed to see their documentation I received a memo form a Bonney Forge Product Engineering Manager dated March 17, 2017 which stated..."Bonney Forge 1" hex head plugs and bushings have been redesigned for...

    Hollow Pipe Plugs

I agree, they're most likely not B16.11 plugs. Our description clearly states we want Solid plugs supplied in accordance with B16.11, but the purchasing person who's in touch with the supplier appears to not comprehend this part of the requirement. I explained to the purchasing person, it's...

    Hollow Pipe Plugs

We have a vendor asking if we'll accept pipe plugs that are solid up until the threads but hollow where the threads are. I looked at ASME B16.11 and it appears hollow plugs are not addressed. Has anyone accepted these types of plugs and if so what justification was used to qualify them to...

U-Stamped vessel requires Replacement Cover Assembly,

Thank you for the replies. The pressure vessel is on a ship and they want us to perform the hydro test. I was hoping to avoid this by drilling & tapping the vent connection directly into the cover flange, but the lift lugs have to be welded so there's no escaping the hydro requirement. We will...

U-Stamped vessel requires Replacement Cover Assembly,

Our Customer has requested a replacement cover for an ASME Section VIII Div.1 U-Stamped pressure vessel., supplied by our company. The cover is a blind flange designed in accordance with App.2. Welded to the cover are 2 lift lugs and a vent coupling. I believe the cover assembly needs to be...

    Loose vs Option/Integral flange requirements per Appendix 2, 2-4 (3) ?

I have an old internal design memo stating that for vessels over 300 PSIG the flange has to be calculated as an INTERGRAL flange in accordance with App.2, 2-4(3). I question the accuracy of this because ASME B16.5 Slip-On style flanges are rated greater than 300 PSIG yet are still attached...

Welded Clamp Ferrules on Code stamped vessels and CRN

#1. Which section of ASME Section VIII Division 1,U-1 addresses the SCOPE of commercially available Tri-Clamp fittings butt-welded to a pipe extension on a Code stamped vessel? (NOTE: Fitting is attached in accordance with VIII, Div.1 requirements) Not Included: U-1(c)(2)(-e) & U-1(e)(1)(-a)...

Weld Repair and "E" value used in Head Calc

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I was aware of my options when I started this thread. I simply needed to let them know if the heads were acceptable per the AI's request to reduce the "E" factor. In the end it's on the Shop to deal with it, however I'm a "big picture" type person and...

Weld Repair and "E" value used in Head Calc

Its a 2" dia hole, and it was not x-rayed only LP tested. I did some searching and found Interpretation VIII-1-86-22. The status is Out of Date and notes that paragraph UW-34 has since been added, specifically addressing the closure of spin holes created by forming. It considers the welds to be...

Weld Repair and "E" value used in Head Calc

Thank you r6155, the shop AI insists this must be done and I've stated that per UW-34 it does not. The AI isn't buying it and this AI falls back on Sect.VIII Div.1 U-2 (e)whenever asked to explain why? Do you by chance have another section from the code that addresses why this isn't necessary?
