Majority of Teamcenter sites use Oracle. Every version of Teamcenter supports Oracle, except for Teamcenter Express, which is MSSQL only. Tc2007.1 and beyond uses UGSLMD 28000 port, which NX4? and Up uses. So Tc and NX are both on the same license server now.

Look at your ugii_env.dat file in NX2 vs NX5, and look in the customer defaults in NX5 for drafting naming. Make sure they are correct to your company naming convention.

I had to use AutoCAD back in '93 time frame, while learning NX or UG at the time. Once I was almost complete with the UG training, I was running away from AutoCAD. Add View, is the AutoCAD killing operation :-).

You need the 64bit version of NX installed in order to fully utilize all the RAM and other performance gains you may get. Since it is installed in the x86 directory path you are running with the limitation of a 32bit program.

Drafting defaults are in the customer defaults. File -> Utilities -> Customer defaults.
Custom format blocks settings, you can find in customer defaults as well. At least the location it looks for the files.
I'm not sure any NX training goes over the customer defaults in this type of detail...
I have never been able to get a macro to run from a menu. Only Toolbars have been able to run macros. I think it is even stated in the documents somewhere.
A way to accomplish this is by converting the .men to a .journal format. Journals can run from a menu and toolbar.

The default for menu entry for help can be hacked, by creating a custom menu entry and hiding the original and creating your own menu entry. The Menu entry system command will be to call IExplorer with the path to the help location.

The DCS file log information is stored as part attributes. You can extract the part attributes relatively easy.
The New DCS is based on Knowledge Fusion, so that will be a little different extracting the information.

Instead of using STEP, try opening the file directly in NX. I think there is a license requirement for this, but could give it a shot.

I have been able to recover work by taking the syslog and turning it into a macro file. But haven't done this in years now.
If your teamcenter looses connection to the server, you can save outside of Teamcenter.

Another way to do it, is by creating datum plane and axis in the part(s) and created a reference set for mating. Then you'll make the plane and axis, not touching the solid. This also is good since mating surfaces reference surface IDs and those can change due to model changes.

There is an option to convert Promotions to WAVE geometry links, so I would use WAVE Geometry Links not promotions. Even if fundamentally there is no difference anymore. Promotions are out.

If you need to share these drawings outside of your company, that company has to set up your patterns to view them. If you insert the drawings into the file, it can't be managed anymore. So changes to the format, revision history, standard notes, etc get to be a mess.
