Friction coefficient between pipe saddle and steel rod underneath

Hi Prabir, have you considered using moment restraining supports in case your moments are high. I have heard of another phenomenon for large dia pipes where the pipe deflection in axial direction can be more at the top fibres then at the bottom supported portion. have you considered this. Any...

    Insulate Flanges or Not?

I had read some artice in Hydrocarbon processing some years ago that discussed stress failures due to change in temp due to insulation discontinuties. Why don't you intelligent guys give it a thought.I would like to know your views about that.

    Use of Plug Valves

may be there is possibility of sediments and impurities filling the gate valve seat making it unoperable. If line is big and cost is the consideration butterfly will be a good choice.

    placement of k.o. drum

the heavier gases would not disperse fast in case of leakage if they accumulate in pit. If your gas is LNG or LPG this can be dangerous. But underground lpG bullets are common so I hope codes don't prohibit that. Just my views ,nothing sure::-)

    WHY VENTS AND DRAINS REQUIRED

you need to test the integrity of the piping system by hydrotesting it . To fill the lines you need to remove all the air from the system to avoid air pockets. That's why high point vents are requird. After hydrotest you have to empty thr line. That's why low point drains.

When is a reduced port ball valve a better choice?

Reduced port ball valve is the normal choice because of its less cost as compared to full port ball valves. When less pressure drop is desired (but not very critical) then I have seen reduced port ball valves. I have seen the full port valves normally in inlet of PSVs( here the minimum the loss...

Are there Different standards for valve & flanges?

You can always ask your vendor to provide thr flanged valves drillrd to the specific flange standard you are using. It is not a problem for the valve manufacturer when the valve design conditions and flange ratings are matching. navnit
