    Steam Blow into Condenser

In my past job I was a field service engineer for a HRSG company who recommended continuous steam blows. We had a large plant where the customer almost elected to do a steam blow into the condenser because of the difficulty and cost of water, but at the last minute they changed their mind and...

Any Oil and Gas Casualties so far?

Not Oil & Gas, but my previous company in the power industry had many layoffs late last year. Many also left on their own and were not replaced.

    STEAM BLOWING

There are several websites (including this one) out there that provide a lot of information on this very topic. I typed "Steam blow calculation" into Google and found a lot of good information. I suggest you review that and if you have specific questions.

    Data Validation

Skip, That works exactly how I wanted it. Does that code become part of this spreadsheet? I.e. if I send it to my colleagues, will the ClearContents work for them or do they need to do that VBA code? Thanks, Macmet

    Data Validation

Wow, I cannot believe this been a month. But I am back using the sheet again. I am using the Indirect function in my dependent pull down menu. For example I have my first pulldown menu in C9 with the reference to my TASKS list. The second pull down menu is in E9 I have, =INDIRECT($C$9)...

Steam Escaping from Drip Pan Elbow Gap

I agree with Duwe6. For proper function of the vent pipe, there needs to be a venturi effect that can help suck the steam up and outside. Because of your lengths, that may be a problem for you, but I would not recommend wrapping around the gap. "

    Data Validation

Skip, I appreciate the feedback. I am on the road with the spreadsheet I was using. When I get back to the office I will post more details. Thank you Macmet

    Data Validation

Hello Everyone, I am fairly new to using drop down menus in Excel, but I have managed to get a few working and have them linked so the drop down menu is dependent on an initial selection. For example, you can see the webpage here I am using to make the conditional lists.... ->...

    Pumpable Refractory/Insulation

Thank you for your feedback. I agree with you. I would be curious to see this "hand pump". A few people have told me it can be done but no one can show me a picture or direct me to a proper one. Thanks again

    Pumpable Refractory/Insulation

Hello Everyone, I had a recent assignment where we were looking at installing pumpable insulation into a casing due to hot spots. We were looking at Kaowool type HS pumpable. The product spec sheet recommends installation with an extrusion pump. Our vendor offers these pumps for rent, but...

Moving to Canada as Electrical Engineer - Entry Level

It may be wise to go straight for a Master's. When I was in school there were many foreign grad students. If you like Vancouver, they have a very nice school there, UBC. I think the complaints by Canadians is all relative. I suppose we have been lucky, the brain drain here is different. I...

Moving to Canada as Electrical Engineer - Entry Level

I might also suggest that you look into obtaining all the requirements necessary to get your P.Eng status once you move here. Each province in Canada is different, so I can only speak for my own, but in Ontario only degrees from some countries are automatically considered to meet the...

Moving to Canada as Electrical Engineer - Entry Level

I live in Canada and do not think it is a great time to be moving to Alberta. The province was booming for a number of years, but no longer. I have worked with some controls groups in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, but also in Ontario and Nova Scotia. So although you might have better odds looking...

    Silencer in boiler

It is not clear to me where exactly your silencer is. I work for a HRSG company and we have silencers on our exhaust piping from SRVs as well as from some of our pressure control vent valves. In our systems these are not considered pressure parts, but are designed to withstand backpressure...

    Red Light Timing

Alright, I have sent in a notice to the traffic services division. We will see what they say and I will respond to this when/if I hear back.

    Red Light Timing

Hello Everyone, I have a personal question regarding a traffic light near my office. This particular traffic light is at an intersection on a main road with entry/exit branches to shopping centres on both sides of the street. Generally throughout the day there is enough traffic that cars...

    Pump when Dry-running

Keith, You are right, I should have been referring to current. What would you estimate the current drop to be on a small pump such as this? I looked into the Wattsup like you suggested and it looks like a good device, but too expensive for this use. I appreciate the suggestion though...

    Pump when Dry-running

Hello everyone, I hope you are all doing well. I have a situation where I am trying to transfer cleaning water between two tanks. Currently I manually turn the pump on and monitoring the level in the tank being emptied. When the tank is completely empty I turn off the pump and isolate the...
