Jbohrer,
Check out this link http://www.driveworksxpress.com/index.php/training It has tutorials that will show you how to properly set up a DriveWorksXpress project so you can control dimensions and features. Also since DriveWorksXpress is part of the standard SolidWorks product your VAR...
You may want to look at DriveWorksXpress. This can be more powerful and user friendly than design tables in a lot of cases. This will allow you to enter your desired dimensions and it will automatically create a new model and drawing.

For what it is worth I worked for a company that had product center. I still have several friends there and they made the investment to switch 50+ seats to EPDM because they determined it was a much better and much more user friendly tool.

What is the concern with upgrading to EPDM? DBWorks is a very similar program to this and of very similar cost what would make this acceptable but EPDM unacceptable?

CorBlimeyLimey,
I would agree if SP's were just fixes that you possibly should not have to pay for them...but on that same front if you bring your car in for the system control updates you pay for those.
Interesting thing about SolidWorks SP's is they bury ehancements in them more regularly...
So you have these expectations...What other 3D CAD system provides backward compatibility that does more then saving a file as a parasolid opening it and recognizing the features?
Kellnerp you bring up the cost of SolidWorks over time. What are the maintenance costs of those other systems over...

"That's an old saw that's been around for years.•It was promised at SWW 2011, for the second time."
Um this has never been promised. It has been on the top ten, but it has never been promised to be included.
I like the comparisons to line Cad as well. The expectation for backwards...

Lookst like they did pretty good:
**#10 Simplify Video Card Requirements – I’m not sure I entirely understand the scope of this request.**
**DONE** Added auto system check to RX so the exact driver is verified and a direct link to the correct driver if it is incorrect. No longer a...
Check out DriveWorksXpress to get yourself started. You already own it and it is right in your tools pulldown! If you go to DriveWorksXpress.com there are tutorials there to help you get started. You definitely want to be using a design automation tool. This scenario is exactly why the tools...
The 3g switch was a bandaid for a bullet wound back in the day. It was the best thing windows could come up with at the time until 64bit systems were up to speed and out on the market. Untimately if you are having memory errors your best long term solution is a 64bit system. SolidWorks...
If the button is greyed out I suspect a missed step or possibly a registry issue, I would recommend contacting your SolidWorks VAR they should be able to assist in resolving the issue.

I think the important thing is to ask truly what the goal is. Is the goal to associate a drawing number with the balloon so they match? Then the thing to do is use the filename as the balloon number and Bom line item number and everything is automatically joined and updates automatically...
Jeff hit the nail on the head! If your in-context is getting that complex it is time to look at DriveWorksXpress

Scott having worked with Design Tables in the early days I found it much much easier and the setup time to be much much less when using DriveworksXpress. If I were to start from scratch on a project. I even proved out the concept. A simple cabinet that could have one or two drawers, switch...
How is sharing a SolidWorks file on a network (one user with open file at a time) any different than sharing a DriveWorksXpress project on a network (Once user at a time)?
Yes DriveWorksXpress has limitations compared to the other DriveWorks offerings but it is far more powerful then Design...

I would always start with the approved driver. If you experience issues consult your VAR or do some testing on your own. Be sure the "software open GL" option is not checked under options>system options>performance. This can cause the blockiness along with having incorrect hardware...
I have a hard time reading threads like this. It is very frustrating to me! We want performance and reliability but want nothing to change, nothing to be obsolete. Last I read the average lifecycle of an engineering workstation was two and on a stretch 3 years. So for SolidWorks to determine...
