    beam forces sign convention

Hi I am new to abaqus and was working on stress analysis of structure using gravity loads. I have represented hydraulic cylinders as beam elements(i dont know if that is the correct representation)and was extracting beam forces using *el print, SF. I was not able to find out what sign...

    request spring forces

Hi All I am new to abaqus and wanted to know how to request spring forces in abaqus. I have 2 components connected by 3 stiff springs in XY and Z direction. i want to see what are the forces in those spring elements. I appreciate your inputs regards Jim

    shell coat on solid elements

John Thanks for your reply. By shell coat I meant membrane elements. I apologise for the confusion. james

    shell coat on solid elements

All I wanted to know why it is recommended to put a shell coat on solid elements? One possible reason could be that there is a degree of freedom mismatch if the FEA model includes shell-solid connections. Is there any other reason I appreciate your help thanks regards James

    solid65 element

I am trying to create a model of a fiber-reinforced matrix material with tension-only fibers. I have tried using the SOLID65 element (concrete element); however, the tension-only option is not compatiable (at least using the cast-iron material options). Do you have a suggestion as to how to...

damping ratio effect in single point response analysis

yah.i was told that damping ratio is used only to interpolate between the curves, it has no effect on the response. In other words, if u change damping ratio from 0.1 to 1.0, you will not see any diff in results james

damping ratio effect in single point response analysis

Hi I am doing a single point response analysis for a shell model and I observed that the damping doesnot affect the results at all. Can anyone provide some thoughts on why this is happening? thanks regards james

    higher order elements by revolve

Can we create higher order elements by revolving. E.g creating 3-d elements by revolving 2-d elements. If so how to do that thanks regards james80

    cycphase

    Yes, Usum is max at 120 degrees, but when i do a cycphase,list, ansys gives me 0 -76.92 15.58 106.30 132.1337541 as the max displacement instead of 120 146.73 -29.73 -202.89 252.1503763 I dont know why?

    co-ordinate system

If i have 4 local coordinate system. Is there a way to find out which nodes are associated with that coordinate system. E.G I have LCS_1 as the cylindrical coordinate system. I want to have a list of nodes that are refered to that coordinate system One way I was thinking was to renumber the...

    PCG solver question

Hi the problem only occurs when the model is from Ansys v8 and being used on our remote servers. When I archive the model out of v8, then in to v6, and finally save it as a v6 db, the model solved fine. This message (NaN) is with a large model from v8 solved on our remote servers using the PCG...

    PCG solver question

I am running a linear static analysis in ANSYS, simple support and 1 lb load. I am using PCG solver, when I checked the .stat file for "ratio", I see ratio = NAN Can anyone tell me what it means?? thanks james

    shell-solid contact

hi, I am working on shell-solid contact analysis. I built a test model which consisted of a cylinder and reactangle the cylinder was meshed with solid185 while the rectangle with shell63 with thickness of 0.1 I setup the contact using MPC algorithm with always bonded type contact. In the first...

    aanimating results

I am actually interested in animating a series of stress plots from a series of results files. I did not solve the model using multiple load steps because the results file becomes enormous and unworkable. I split the full cycle of load positions into 20 "steps" and wrote a macro to place the...
