What you could do if I understand your problem correctly is have a milestone that is the last item in any one string of activities and make that "Must Finish On" make all the others "Start as late as possible". The major drawback with this is that it will move all the tasks onto the critical path.

Try using the customised text or number fields that project has. For each site allocate a unique code then using the autofilter you will be able to see which ever site you require and if you set up your own filters you cen see the pipeline as well.

If you open all your projects, then go to Window|New Window... you can see all your projects. Highlight all the projects you want to include in your parent project and OK.
You can now save this file as your parent project file.

In MSP 2003 there are three layers available and these can be manipulated in various ways, but why would you want to show more, surely it would be too long?
The timelayers can be manipulated by double clicking in the time bar above the gantt and selecting the various scales and time parameters.
Probably a bit late now but have you tried using the "Share resources" option? (Tools|Share Resources). You will have to do it for each project but once done it will give you a view of the resources across the whole portfolio of projects.

TO get a calendar day duratio instead of a working day duration I use elapsed days, put an "e" in front of the duration units. You might be able to use this in some way, I haven't tried it but I thought it might be useful.
