Kinsrow,
I’m not so sure if you can transfer manual operation skills to a CNC machine, but I can be wrong. I mean you would know how to do it with your hands and have a feel of what you want to do, but on a CNC you have to either code in what you want or use mastercam to out line what you want...
Foulballs,
Just curious, are you evaluating COTS equipment to see if they can stand military spec? In my experience both for the thermal and vib, commercial companies either test at low levels or not test at all. You may have to develop your own ESS to screen the commercial stuff. If LM is...
That’s interesting; does pro-e and the manuals even come in Spanish? This would be a great consulting opportunity to translate English to Spanish and then teach it in the Spanish speaking countries.

May be a good place to start would be to read “Vibration Spectrum Analysis” by Steve Goldman printed by Industrial Press. It is a good book on how vibration is analyzed and the author use a lot of rotating equipment examples.
Just a suggestion,

Ha ha, sorry, I’m from NYC (not living there now) and when this post said strange smells from NYC, the first thing that popped in my head was the vending guys that sell pretzels, hot dogs, roasted nuts, …etc, kind of brings back memories.
LCruiser,
I thought Hiram Walker was a small dog with...
Kind of an interesting story related to this thread. I remember watching some kind of myth show on how somebody invented a weather machine, well it turned out that the weather machine was one big microwave (something like one big phase array radar) that they pointed strait to the sky above...
Ah huh… I should go and tell the high school kids to get their Structural Certificate of Engineering from some structural engineering society so they can call them selves Structural Engineers. I know this is absurd, but that is what Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer sounds like. Somebody...
kchida,
Just a question, why did you get into engineering? Engineering in college has never been a popular choice. Engineering is one of those fields that you want to go in or not. I’m certain that people did not go into engineering for our luxurious life style.
Just curious…

In my last company they band coffee makers in your cube or office area. There was a fire that was started by an empty coffee maker that somebody left on over the holiday break.

Some where in your company there is a department or section that is designing and building the smaller stuff that has to be done in-house. These are the departments that you have to keep your eyes and ears open for, because some companies are so big one group does not really know what the other...
Well according to the law of conservation of mass, we are not loosing anything on earth, but since we are bombarded by meteorites I say we are gaining…

Man it sounds like you need a vacation if you are thinking about this stuff…
“I meant the nice utopian kind where people can do what they want without having to "work" just to get by.”
I don’t think technology can change the have and have not society to create a utopian ( I think that is what...
Cuky2000,
The same sentiment is echoed by this article in Engineering Times http://www.nspe.org/etweb/10705image.asp. The way this report is gauging how many engineers are being produced is by how many are graduating and it seems that only people with engineering degrees are considered...
Kind of related to this thread…
I’m confused about National Society of Professional Engineers stance of the engineering title or who can call them selves an engineer in this article “Engineers' Image Differs Across the Globe” (http://www.nspe.org/etweb/10705image.asp). Apart from the daunting...
“This does seem to be a US concept. In the UK anyone who works or is trained in an engineering discipline is an engineer.”
I thought in the UK when you hear the title engineer the first person that they would think of would be a TV repairman or garage mechanic?

Sometimes I wonder how the masses react when they hear the breaking news of an idea being debunked. Things like the earth being flat or the earth was the center of the universe. When Galileo try to prove that the earth was not the center of the universe, there was great opposition to a point...
