Question about centrifugal pump thrust bearing temperatures.

There is a possibility that during the bypass mode the circulating fluid is much hotter. Is that another possibility that you have not look into ?

    Pump Cavitation

Another idea, before you might want to the try the above, is to ensure that the strainer is properly vented. I can't see the suction side of the pipe, if there is a loop or not. I presume the suction pipe of the pump is properly vented. You can put the strainer on the suction side as suggest...

    Oil ring Vs Oil Bath

Thanks bradshsi I don't have bearing size, I am just trying to specify if oil ring is required over oil bath. Since speed is a factor. And as a rule of tumb rpm over 3600. How about power (kW) or shaft power which translate into bearing size ? What do you think, a typical power rating of a...

    Oil ring Vs Oil Bath

Thanks electricpete for the infomation. Would you say rule of tumb any thing in exceed 3600rpm we would go for oil lubricated ring. Is there a way to calculate this out or is it base on experience ? Thanks again

    Increasing pump life; Reducing Wear

Have you consider progressive cavity pump ? It would be worth looking at this, this type of pump is design to pump 30-40% solids and it is for slurry application. Anyway I do not know how sharp and large are the solid, if it will cut through the stator.

    Gear Pump

Yes ccfowler you are right, thanks for the information on gerotor and cresent pumps. I am sure some of us have not given much thought about gear pumps. I believe the general reason for that, it is cheap , small and insignificant. Thanks ccfowler, I have learn a new word today, "Gerotor is a...

    Design Pressure for Screw Pumps

I was recently made aware for high pressure screw pump. The design pressure of the inlet and outlet side is different. Example if the design of the discharge side is 80bar, then maybe be the suction side is design at 40bar. Is this a common practice, for screw pump manufacturer. API std doesn't...

How to handle too much head?

ProjEng, A safe suggestion, to ensure that you do not blow out the nozzles, due to over pressure is to install orifice plates in the system. I think this will be much cheaper and safer. Butterfly valve should be design for trottling. I hope that is spec in when you buy the valve. Because if it...
