The attached pdf is a page from some SAE paper from the very early 1960s.
Author is the Corvair's chief designer,. K. H. Hansen.
I don't believe I've ever seen another recommendation that rear wheels should lock up before the fronts.
I wonder if it really was a 1960s thing, or if K.H. Hansen...
There's a discussion on an engine tech bulletin board about the necessity or benefit or even harm of grounding the radiator of a typical passenger or even a boat.
https://www.speed-talk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=68565
A variety of opinions exist from it doesn't matter, to grounding is bad, to...
It used to be the when weld repairing automotive crankshaft journals etc, before welding began "
> carbon/graphite woodruff keys would be inserted in the keyways on the crankshaft snout
> carbon or graphite rods would be inserted in the oil holes
The purpose was to keep the original...
We just received three 8000 lb cast steel hubs from a supplier.
Each hub has a 28" long machined Ø760mm/Ø29.92" bearing bore.
Our incoming inspection determined the bores' sizes and roundness are acceptable using large inside micrometers ( "stick mikes" ).
As the hubs were being moved by crane...
The 1936 series Socket Head Cap screws are typically smaller head Ø and hex socket than the modern 1960 series.
I can find Series 1936 sizes up to about 1".
Machinery's Handbook 16th Edition or ASA B18.3-1961 would probably have the answers of head diameter and edge radius/chamfer ( radius K...
Some of our models have entities labeled MSBR in the model tree.
The history of the creation of these parts in not well know.
One suggestion is the "SB" stands for an imported Solid Body.
Neither Google nor Inventor help gets even that close.
Suggestions or facts appreciated.

A couple of helpful images were included by Chez 311 in the thread above from 2018.
A did fairly extensive searching in ASME Y14.5-2018 for combinations of "datums", and "not referenced" but struck out.
Does anyone know where those images, or images like them, might have...
Sounds like direct injection gasoline engines will experience significant build up of deposits in the intake ( and exhaust?) ports well before 100,000 miles.
BMW has a walnut blasting tool that supposedly fits on the intake manifold for reduced dis-assembly for service.
There is talk of adding...
We are having some 8000 lb steel castings poured and machined by one Supplier/company.
There are 4 separate bolt patterns with 36 threaded holes on the part. The threaded holes are dimensioned with "basic" bolt circles and angular positions.
The threaded holes' positions are dimensioned using...
In the 26th Edition of Machinery's handbook there is a table of machining tolerances that can be expected for various machining operations. It references ANSA B4.1 - 1967 (reaffirmed 1987).
Similar to, but much broader than ISO 2768. ( that has fine medium and coarse tolerances for various...
We are ordering some fairly large castings made of ASTM A48 Class 35 cast iron. Each casting weights Around 1000 lbs. It is a hub with bores machined for a large roller bearing. Very low stress, with service temperatures less than 200°F. It will be LP or MT inspected for surface soundness...
An overseas customer specifies galvanized fasteners in the natural gas piping and equipment we are providing.
They also require use of some kind of anti-seize on those fasteners.
We'll be quizzing humans at Permatex and Henkel about this.
In the mean time I'd sure appreciate hearing the real...
It seemed like in the olden days small grill opening were required for good aerodynamics.
Some race cars erred on the small size and had to be enlarged after some track time.
Nowadays passenger car aerodynamics is an important part of fuel economy gains.
Thus The craze for giant grill...
ISO 4026 thru 4029 for socket head set screws seem to be limited to stop short at M24.
ASME B18.3 is a standard for inch series socket head set screws.
I have not found a reference to the M combined variant. And no hits anywhere for ASME B18.3M. Even the ASME website...
We are replacing some 75 HP 460 volt 900 rpm ODP motors from the 1970s. Frame 444TS.
The old probably original name plate also includes " Type K ".
As best I can tell Type K means 8.0 to 8.99 KVA per HP with locked rotor or somesuch .
I guess this is beyond, or in addition to the "Design" B...
I'm wondering if leaving a roll of AWS E71T-11 flux core wire in the MIG welder in the garage leads to flux degradation.
I'm contemplating going to a 10 lb roll ( about half the price/lb of 1 and 2 lb spools).
A 10 lb spool will likely be a few years worth for me.
thanks,

Good morning,
We need to hold some tungsten carbide plates/tiles ( roughly 1" square, less than .25" thick ) in position on a two pound steel part when heated for silver brazing . Possibly to 1500° F.
I'm picturing a springy finger bearing gently against the tiles.
Any metallic spring...
We are looking to have some large metalastik style bushings made.
Steel inner and out sleeves nominally ~ 0.2" thick.
IDs 5.7" to 7" . ODs 6.75" to 8.0". 8" to 9.5" long.
So far I'm finding the typical elastomer is some flavor of vulcanized natural rubber.
Often bonded only to the inner...
