    Select parts of subassemblies

Like any other 3D software, Solidworks is object-oriented. Name of each file is like "social security" number of a person. It needs to be fixed and preferably be set to "Stone". Hi, koubaleite: Are you trying to develop a generic macro for all assemblies? If that is the case, then you need to...

    Select parts of subassemblies

If I were you, I would rename them from bottom-up per assembly rather than transverse to sub- and sub-sub assemblies, etc. Best regards, Alex

    Select parts of subassemblies

If you need to rename your Solidworks files all the time, then there is something wrong with your processes. Best regards, Alex

    Select parts of subassemblies

Are you trying to rename your components automatically using a macro? If not, you will need to open the top level assembly and "save" each of your components to a different name. Best regards, Alex

How to properly show compound angles of a feature using GD&T?

It is not location of the part. I meant relocation of the cylindric feature in the part. Best regards, Alex

How to properly show compound angles of a feature using GD&T?

Hi, Flying Whale: Those 30 and 45 degrees BSC angles only control orientation. They do not locate the feature. Best regards, Alex

    Profile on a unit basis

Hi, AMontembeault I don't see section 8.3.3.2 in ASME Y14.5 - 2009. Do you have a different version of the standard? Best regards, Alex

Z Datum Average of 2 Points callout

I would use a "V" block to control 6th DOF ("clocking"). Best regards, Alex

How to properly show compound angles of a feature using GD&T?

Hi, Azeemsha: The print looks Ok as long as you know that this feature with dimension dia. 17 is not located. You will also need a size tolerance for this dimension. Best regards, Alex

How to properly show compound angles of a feature using GD&T?

Hi, Azeemsha: As 3DDave indicated, you can't have a dangling BASIC dimension (30 degrees in this case). BASIC dimensions must be traced back to its datum feature(s). You can only use a dangling dimension if it is a size dimension for feature of size. Happy New Year! Alex

    Unilateral tolerances-why?

Hi, sendithard: Do your customer prints have a note to indicate you can use its 3D model? If not, then the models mean nothing to you. Best regards, Alex

    Breaking apart a Cots part

Hi, Nescius: "A single unit of purchased raw material" below is not an item. "A single unit of purchased "raw material" yields 3 new items upon processing." Unit of measure for materials in ERP is either lb. or Kg. Therefore, it can have fractional Qty. When you purchase an item with unit of...

    Breaking apart a Cots part

Hi, marshell: No ERP will allow that. You are trying to make a new item out of a fraction (1/3?) of the purchase item. You won't be able to do backflush with the component. You will need to adjust it manually. Best regards, Alex

    Breaking apart a Cots part

Just focus on what you need. If you need to purchase an item, you create a print for this item as a "purchase" item. If you need to put together multiple items, you create a print for this combined item as a "make" item. Best regards, Alex

    Reference point at intersection

Hi, Proizvodnja Create a sketch on the Top plane and add a couple of reference points. Ctrl-select one of the points and the circle and then apply "Pierce" relationship. Do the same to the other point. Best regards, Alex

Interpretation of General Profile Tolerance Note

Hi, dgehornback: What is "a datasheet"? I assume it is a print. When you have multiple documents (in your case, you have a datasheet and an MBD model), you must define which is a primary document to define the part. I assume your datasheet is primary and your MBD model is referenced on your...

    drive design for grinding machine

That is a crazy speed for surface or cylindrical grinders. It sounds like a rocket (LOL).

Image of assembly component in userform macro vba

I think you are reinventing the wheel. If you want to change properties for a component, why don't you revise them accordingly in SW environment? Best regards, Alex

Detail View - solid line vs phantom? What is standard?

I looked up ASME Y14.3-2003. Fig. 23 on page 14 does indeed show a detailed view with a phantom line (circle). Best regards,

What is in your mind? Are you trying to make your own 3D modeler using Solidworks Kernel? Best regards, Alex
