Hi all,
Are there any existing systems out there that would take/absorb measured dimensional data from injection molded components and feed it back to the injection molding machine to enable process optimization and valdiation to better control the process?
Appreciate any information you can...
You should inquire if the moulder is using regrind material as this can affect mechanical properties. Also find out if there's a filler in the material such as glass or a mineral such as talc which cheapens the material and is probably uncall for. I'd be careful when you broach the moulding...
In the current Mobile Telecoms industry, mobile operators are beginning to rollout their 3G networks. With the requirement for more transmission sites and the public objection to signal transmitting installations, operators here in Ireland and the UK are forced by planners to ensure their...
I have seen silicone gel sheets used for medical purpose which can be washed and reused repeatedly with no adverse effects on the stickiness.

Not to forget PC...for extra strenghth and toughness. ASA is marketed on it's ability to retain colour. It has exceptional colour fastness properties and won't fade much over time even in direct sunlight.

There are a few Ian, I'd advise you to subsribe to a publication called the Plastics and Rubber Weekly (PRW) www.prw.com which comes out every thursday and would have the biggest circ in the UK and Ireland. It will have all the info you need on courses, distance learning or otherwise. There are...
tomysux,
It's hard to make a call without seeing the geometry of the part. PP and PE are good materials for 'bumping off' threads but a lot of the mechanics in doing it is down to the design of the mold. When you have the design right obviously you can play around with variables like cycle time...
Johnr,
The GE site is good for what you need for the design of snaps....

You will have to register to access though.

As Pat has said, almost any amorphous material should meet your stated criteria. Try to select a material which has a comparably low shrinkage value to minimise warpage and try to gate the parts at one end preferably with an edge tab or fan gate.

Have you tried putting a solenoid valve with a pulsing circuit on the line and pulsing the air periodically to avoid clog?

What is your total volume requirement, it may be worth building an aluminium mold to a custom design if you require a few thousand or more?

boscolee,
Are you tied to using HDPE? You may want to consider an alternate engineering reinforced thermoplastic and core out the form using strengthening ribs. On cooling a 6 inch section will contract, warp and sink significantly and I would suggest really shouldn't be considered. An FEA of a...
Goodfoot,
I've always found Basell to be a very good supplier and information source for polypropylenes. You can find out more at www.basell.com. They are a global company.

kchiguvari,
I had a similar problem a number of years ago when involved in the design of a material feed system for a Rotational moulding machine. Whilst I didn't investigate stirrers available at the time, I did come up with a good solution. I piped compressed air into the hopper and pulsed it...
What is your annual unit volume requirement? And what is the strength requirement, weight of parts being transported etc.

Wow folks if Moldcoster is indicative of what you're paying for tooling in the US, I should be upping my prices for design and Ally tooling!

Mostly experience, Obviously you have to cover all costs so it's wise to add material costs and total labour plus machining time x their respective rates and then add your profit margin if that's not already included in your rate.

Agree with the comments stated, though you will need a side wall of plastic to sub feed near that hole. If this isn't the case, you might want to consider either a submarine or a winkle gate onto an ejector pin located near the edge of the hole.

Sorry, but I stayed away from that one, as I lacked knowledge in significant areas, ie the severity (or lack thereof) of exposure to UV in the UK, and only a limited knowledge of the UV properties of PVC.
ASA is much better than ABS and I expect a little better than PVC re delta factor...
