    Pump suction line priming

Ok, thank you all for your advice. I will continue to look into the vertical turbine pumps and submersible options. As for the initial option for the dry well, the idea of considering vertical pumps is to reduce the horizontal footprint in order to reduce as much as possible the area required...

    Pump suction line priming

Vertical turbine pumps were another option considered, but the owner is reluctant because they have installed these types of pumps in the past with not very satisfactory results. A lot of maintenance issues according to them. The other option still on the table is submersible pumps. Maybe less...

    Pump suction line priming

Hello Heaviside1925 Thank you for your response. Mainly the convenient maintenance part refers to the pumps. That’s why vertical pumps are proposed, so the can be hoisted wherever on site maintenance cant be done. Also, the proposed arrangement would work as N+1 or one pump on stand-by.

    Pump suction line priming

Hello everyone, I’m evaluating cost effective proposals for a flood control pump system that also allows for convenient maintenance. One option is to install dry vertical non-self-priming pumps next to the wet well. The pumps would start with a water level on the wet well above the suction line...

Ruler type level indicators for tanks

Hello everyone I'm looking for some guidance for marking the tank level for a floating type level indicator. The indicator that was provided does not include the ruler itself; only a marker that slides vertically (see attacjed file). We are considering on painting or attaching markers on the...

    Pigging through different pipe thickness

Thank you all for your comments, My understanding is that the change in class was agreed with the client due to delivery times of fittings such as the barred tees, elbows and flanges associated to both traps. Poor project planning I suppose.

    Pigging through different pipe thickness

Greetings all, I'm having the following issue with a piggable pipeline: The pipeline has been designed in accordance with ASME B31.4, however the location of the launching and reciever traps has been designed in accordance to ASME B31.3. The piping class indicates that for the pipeline the pipe...

    Movement of in-service pipeline

Greetings everyone, I'm involved in a project that requires lowering a live pipeline, currently laid on the surface, into a trench. We have worked out the requirements according to API RP 1117, however we are having trouble working out a detail that is out of scope of the recommended practice...

    Wear in fittings

This is great advice. I'm not sure if supply of cushion tees can meet the procurement deadline, so I'll go with LittleInch's last advice. Thank you

    Wear in fittings

Thank you all for your replies. Gerharld has a good point bringing up possible cavitation. It seems unlikely due to the high pressure and low speed; still, I’ve seen some papers available on the subject. I’ll check them out.

    Wear in fittings

Hello pennpiper, I wanted to know if its a good practice in general, but in my case specifically the conditions are as follows: - Fluid: water for well injection (a minimum amount of grit material could be present) - Temperature: 100°F - Pressure: 1500 psi - NPS: 6" - Velocity: 7.7 fps - Code...

    Wear in fittings

Hello everyone, What is your advice with respect to erosive wear in a tee fitting when the flow is directed into the tee through the branch? In other words, the branch of the tee is not deriving the flow but rather the entire flow enters through the branch and splits almost equally along both...

    Electric vs. pneumatic deluge valves

Hello everyone, I've been looking into deluge valve manufacturers but I'm not clear on the application difference between models that operate solely with electric solenoid actuation and those that have electric solenoid pneumatic actuation. At first view it would seem that pneumatic actuation...

SS piping with threaded broze valves

Hi Ed, Thanks for your reply. Exact water conditions for this case are unknown, however it should not be a of great concern since it is obtained from a clean river at 20ºC. My primary concern is the interaction between stainless steel and bronze.

SS piping with threaded broze valves

Hello everyone, I'm doubtful on material compatibility for a piping project compliant to ASME B31.3. Threaded bronze valves are to be installed on stainless steel pipe A-312 carrying crude water. As for corrosion between materials, is there a justification per standard ASME or ASTM that allows...

ASME Sec. VIII div. 1, appendix 13, reinforcement intersection

Hello everyone, I have the following issue: A rectangular vessel designed as per ASME Sec. VIII div. 1, appendix 13, with distributed external horizontal reinforcements. Some of the nozzles happen to intersect the external reinforcements. Unfortunately these nozzles cannot be displaced. For...

    Load cells under vibration

Thanks for your reply MintJulep, The magnitude of the forces are relatively small, around 150 lbf for one cell and 30 lbf for another. I can't really quantify the perturbations or vibrations yet, but the amplitude should fall around +/- 5% of the force, and the frequency should be near 10 Hz...
