ukinam,
the nozzles will be on a vessel that is horizontally mounted. Per the customer, seismic loads are applicable only for vertically mounted units. I asked another person here and he too says that seismic analysis will not be required for horizontal cases. Also, Compress too seems do the...
The reason given for not including seismic load was horizontal installation. Is that correct?
Also, what we did was tell them that individual loads are okay and gave them the maximum total forces and moments the design will withstand.
Thanks.
We were told by our customer that the seismic load need not be combined with the weight and thermal. With this condition, we do not get very high stresses.
Tom: If you still have the excel file, it would be very useful.
It was a new learing for us and thanks for all your help.
Tom,
We were provided a table of nozzle sizes and the values of VL, Vc, ML, and Mt for three conditions - weight, seismic, and thermal. Other values are not provided and we take those forces/moments are not present.
When we supply values to compress we input all the values for one type of load...
Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I also went over some of the previus threads in the forum.
We do not have capabilities to do FEA for this. From the compress values for various loads, the bending moment seems to have more influence on the stress values. We are checking if that value can...
I looked through some of the past threads and I think all the loads need to be applied simultaneously. However, we find some unreasonable stress values.
The options we tried were having heavier wall pipe for the nozzle and the attached shell and also reinforcing pads. These do not seem to have...
This is totally new to me and I would request your advice.
We have been provided the allowable forces and moments for weight, seismic and thermal loads for different nozzles and asked to design the nozzles to withstand them.
When entering the values for forces and moments in WRC 107...
Does SS 304 have good corrosion resistant in glycol service? The references I checked say they do, but we have an instance where SS 304 glycol heater has split tubes in less than 3 months service and also shows signs pf pitting.
Has anyone seen this type of attack before?
Thanks in advace.
If you check the outlet temperatures in the 2 modes, they would be different.
In simulation mode, BJAC tries to adjust the outlet temperature that will use up all the surface area available.
Are vacuum breakers required according to any code for a heat exchanger condensing steam in the shell side?
We want to install a vacuum breaker as it would protect the shell, however others say there is no requirements per code and hence not needed.
Thanks in advance.
Excuse for posting in...

We are going to prepare test welds to make our welders comfortable with welding these materials. They have welded hastelloy before only not to stainless.
The joint is almost always done with automatic welder.
Also we need to get a procedure qualified as well. Hopefully it would go without much...
The weld is a requirement for clean service with no crevices allowed.
We are not sure about temperature swings.
Tube size: 1/2" 20 gage, 3/4" 22 & 18 gage mixed
EdStainless:
The welding is required at the area of tubes joining tube sheet in a condenser.
What methods and filler metal can be used to weld?
I did not follow what you meant by the final weld properties. The welding is required to seal any gaps and prevent leaks after the tubes are...
Hi,
Can hastelloy (C276 or C22) be welded to stainless steel (304L or 316L)?
We need some directions on what process can be used and if it has been done before.
Thanks in advance.
