    Spiral Wound Gaskets, Material Certificates

Ok Gr2vessels, thank you very much for your help. Although your answer is no the one I wish, I realize that your a right. Thanks again.

    Spiral Wound Gaskets, Material Certificates

Dear GR2vessels, Thank you for your comment. The service which these gaskets are intended for is a plain one and there was not specific requirement regarding mats certificates type from our customer. Gaskets were just specified as stainless steel foil plus non asbestos fiber. So, a 2.2 certif...

    Spiral Wound Gaskets, Material Certificates

Dear all, For spiral wound gaskets with 304 stainless steel winding material, what sort of certificate has to provide the gasket supplier, just chemical composition or mechanical properties too? I read over and over the B16.20 and some catalogues from prestigious gasket manufactures and the...

    ANSI B16.47 HEAT TREATING CONDITION

Dear All, I thought that flanges #300 and over must be supplied in normalized condition. But I went through the norm and found nothing about this subject. May be I did not search properly. Can someone confirm if normalized is mandatory or not. Thank you in advance Juan

    Slotted Holes Flanges

Dear all, Does anyone know a reference where is stated that ASME flanges calculation is irrespective of the shape of bolt holes?. Thanks in advance

Typical Saddles Height for Horizontal Vessels

Gents`, There is a stress (on the saddle side) that is influenced by saddle height beneath the vessel. Please have a look on Zick method (or BS5500). This calculation determines the minumun height. Of course there are many many stds for saddles geometry. Regards

PSV Sizing - Fire Case Only

PSV`s for fire design depends on what is inside the vessel, vessel dimentions and operation and design conditions. From my understding its selection is more delicate than a std PSV. I recomend you to transfer your query to a PSV supplier,

    Split Reinforcing Pads

Besides, is suggested to orientate the "diametral" seam of the re-pad circunferetially in order to be "caught" by the longitudinal stresses of the shell.

    Does vessel skirt need PWHT?

Matay, Because of the s. steel thicknesses you mentioned, the vessel is expensive enough to justify that the skirt has say its first upper foot made from ssteel too. And forget PWHT.

    ANSI B16.5 Corrosion Allowance

Dear all, I was sure that pressure ratings stablished in ANSI B16.5 implicitily included a 0.25in corrosion allowance and that if this values was exceded, the ratings were no longer valid. Just to verify that, I went thorugh this ANSI and found notihing about this corrosion matter (may be I was...

Nozzle Load : Transfer Piping loads for Saddle Calculations

Sorry to join late this thread. Definitively, nozzle loads has to be considered in saddle design. Besides (unless pretightenning is clearly specified), longitudinal shear loads will be taken by anchor bolts of only one saddle.

Discontinuity Stress Formula From Roark's Handbook

There are to good books that deals with this discontinuities situations: Pressure Vessel Design Handbook by H.Bednar Mechanical Design of Process Eq`mt. By Farr and Jawad. Pls have a look on them.

    Joint Efficiency acc to UW-12

Dear all, Please help me with the proper interpretation of table UW-12 for class (1) weldments. If a weldment is done only from one side, say with GTAW for the root and SMAW for completion, with comprobable full penetration, can E=1 be used in calculations?. Or this E=1 can only be used when...

Internal Painting of a L.P. Vessel

Dear all, Does anyone know some source of information or tips regarding internal painting of pressure vessels. My main concer is about gaskets vs painting behaviour. Thanks in advance.

Bolt tightening torque for EPDM gaskets

I assume that the steel flanges you mentioned are ANSI`s. Dig into web pages or garlock, flexitallic or may be kemptchen of Germany (they have ANSI gaskets). You`ll probably find there practical torque tables instead of doing calculations.

Use of belt slings for heavy pressure vessel lift

Probably because of lenguage reasons, I did not read wether the vessel is horizontal or vertical. How is going to be put in its operational position @ site? May be your customer will not be happy of not finding any poitn to lift the vesel from!.

    diferences between div-1 and 2

A mayor difference between both divisions is the failour theory. Meanwhile div.1 uses the maximun principal stress, div.2 uses the maximun shear stress (like Ad-Merkblatt). In the formula of div. 2 should be a term p/2, which is the radial stress averaged along the wall thikness (=-p in the...

    Nozzle Design: Set-On vs Set-Through

This subject is something I faced recently. Design specification from a spaniard engineering company preferred the set-on design meanwhile the design spec. of a huge brazilean pretroleoum company forbides the set-on nozzles!!! (always speakig of nozzles <1.5in) I believe the fear is the...
