Hi Thiet,
The method you described will move the component like you want assuming there are no other constraints, however you will not obtain stress or strain values since there is no relative displacement of the nodes in the component.
...with axis 3 oriented along the rotation axis.
Step 2: Create a spatial field with respect to that coordinate system where the second component (tangential component) = 1*'r ('r is the distance to axis 3 of the coordinate system).
Step 3: Assign an acceleration to the nodes using that field.
Hi Coach,
I too am looking to include springs with preload. In Nastran, you can define a CBUSH1D element, and then reference a table for force vs. displacement. If in the table zero displacement equals non-zero force, then you have a preload.
Only problem is, I can't figure out how to make...
Hi all,
When I go to input properties for a General Section Beam (CBAR), I would like to specify the bar orientation using a vector with respect to Coord 1.
However, even after changing the Default Coordinate Frame, along with the analysis and reference coordinate frames of the nodes, the...
Try checking your grid_snap option and making sure it's set to "no". Maybe the reason you can't move items is because they're trying to snap to a really wide grid.
I have a component with several instances as part of an assembly. Is it possible to make several instances of the assembly that use a different instance of the component?
Thanks,

Hi Brandon,
There should be a folder in the installation directory labeled formats and another folder labeled templates. These folders should contain what you are looking for. For example, on my computer the format files are located in
C:\Program Files\proeWildfire 3.0\formats
and the...
Hi All,
If I have a component in an assembly, is there a quick way to create a new coordinate system at the component level such that the new coordinate system coincides with the assembly coordinate system?
Thanks
Thanks justkeepgiviner,
I looked into it some more and found out that in wildfire 3.0 (I had been using 2.0) that you can make colored images in drawing mode. I created an account with ptc.com and downloaded the upgrade to wildfire 3.0, and made the scaled color images in a drawing.
Hi all,
I would like to print colored images of front, left, and top views of an assembly to paste onto a box representing its volume. However, this requires that 1 inch of the printed color image is equivalent to 1 inch of the model. When I save the assembly to a jpeg or tiff, the image size...
Hi saneryin,
When you choose the "Save a Copy" option, if you scroll down in the Type drop down menu, there should be an option called Shrinkwrap. Choose Shrinkwrap, then select OK.
The dialog box that opens up has an option called Merged Solid, which takes an assembly and makes it a single...
Hi danoo,
If you go to view > color and appearance, the appearance editor dialog box opens. From here you can add a new appearance (click on the plus). If you select the Map tab, you should see options for bump, color texture, and decal. Click on the white square in the bump section, and the...
Perhaps a mapkey is the way to go on this one. Go to Tools > mapkeys and click the button labeled New. You can use any key sequence (like your initials or jjax), and can name it something like assign_steel_density.
Now hit Record, and go through the steps of assigning a new density (Edit >...
1. Go to Tools > Options
2. In the option text bar type "pen*_line_weight" and hit find
3. Set the values of the different lines from 1 (thinnest) to 16 (thickest)
4. Click Add/Change, then Apply
Hope this helps

In drawing mode, go to View > Show and Erase...
Under Type, select the note button (an arrow with the text ABCD next to it)
Select Show by Feature and View, then click the threaded hole.
...the reference and pick the cylindrical coordinates option.
You can then set the parameters for the curve. Let
r = your desired radius
theta = t*n*360 (where n is number of winds in the helix)
z = l*t (where l is the length of the helix)
This will parametrically plot the 3-D curve from...
Hi kgrzebien,
When you have the large assembly open, go to view manager and create a simplified rep that includes only a fraction of the components of the assembly (the fraction size will depend on how much you can save before your computer crashes, but let's say for now it's 1/3). Then go...
Hmmm, there doesn't seem to be an unhighlight option, but I've found a way to unhighlight the edges without having to save, erase, and reopen:
Left click a view whose modified edges have been highlighted, then go to edit > properties. If the view is a general view and has no parent views...
Hi TCGT,
There are a couple of things that may be causing this problem. Select "View" in the menu bar then choose Display Settings > Model Display. Select the Edge/Line tab and set the Edge Quality to Very High.
You may also want to try selecting "Edit" in the menu bar then choose "Setup"...
