Dear Experts,
Is there a rule of thumb regarding the distance of the cut boundary relative to the point of interest. I find I have to try different distances /re analyse to verify that the cut boundaries of the submodel are far enough away from the concentration
Thanks

Dear Experts,
We have experimentally tested fatigue data of cast steel notched and unnotched dumbell specimens to which there is a stress life curve.
Is this stress life curve suitable for stress above yield of the material as we have determined from our FEA?
I realise strain life curve would...

I currently have modelled a step as one type of manoeuvre.
I was also considering a 200mm high 7m sine wave to see the effects of weight transfer of both vehicles as it traverses over the course.
What you think?
All,
I’m currently in the process of building a dynamic model of a 6*6 and an 8*8 both of which have different axle rating, springs, dampers, CoGs and wheel travel.
I would like to extract some useful information/characteristics to compare the wheel station of both for a given road profile...
Dear All,
As part of my work to get some rotational inertias, does anyone know what the typical density of run flats such as the VFI by Hutchinson for off road vehicles?
I believe it is a composite of rubber and carbon fibre, i tried search for density of it but no luck
Thanks

My knowledge on this is very limited. Im guessing that some information could be obtained from the manufacturer.
Clearly its a lot more complex than I imagined then!
Dear All,
Is it possible to simulate the effects of shot peening using FEA methods.
Would applied uniform displacement to the surface be a suitable method?
Or is custom non linear material data like kinematic strain hardening required?
Thanks

I am not familiar with the Ramberg – Osgoods cycle…!
That is what I meant, I would like to have the correct tools that predicts ‘mission mixed events’ or duty cycles, damge accumulation etc.
Currently we can only predict life of a component subjected to a single loading event...
I currently have an FEA of a solid pin with a hole drilled perpendicular to shaft axis of rotation and located centrally long shaft length.
The shaft is subject to pure bending. Mesh refinement was performed on the hole feature until convergence. As expected stress concentrations occur on the...
ok,
Its sounds like an unreasonable question. I was just trying to get an idea of differences etc. Best option would probably compare the 2 vehicles using dynamic models.

I am trying to get a picture of how a 6*6 compares to an 8*8 in terms of ‘fatigue loading’ of the suspension components.
Question: Would the 6*6 experience more fatigue loading if each wheel station on both 6*6 and 8*8 has the same sprung mass? I am asking this from a purely...

Currently our program only does constant amplitude, proportional loading with Smith- Watson-Topper, Morrow mean stress corrections for strain life calcs.
We do not incorporate the Ramberg-Osgoods cyclic material equation to calculate strain amplitude. Basically, our program is very...
Dear Experts,
Does any know of a source to get info regarding the advantages/disadvantages regarding the ride/handling, weight transfer comparison of 6*6 against 8*8 etc?
Thanks

Dear Experts,
Are there any standards for the testing of heavy vehicles subjected to sine wave road profiles? ISO or SAE?
I currently have standards for open loop test methods and steady state circular tests methods
Any information appreciated.
Thanks
Dear aeroafrix2
That sounds a lot better :-)
We mainly use strain life approach but it is not full field.
Our spreadsheet does not calculate fatigue for the different types of cycle regimes etc.
I am wondering how i can convince the boss to invest in this product!! :-)
Thanks
Thanks,
Thats disappointing! It looked impressive on the Ansys website, i guess thats marketing :-)
Can you recommend any other programs? Currently we used an excel based program which is outdated and only does very simple fatigue calcs.
Thanks
Eddie
