Poisson's ratio data is not easy to obtain from simple tensile testing.
I've read multiple studies on the interwebs and there is not a lot of solid data on how Poisson's of steel changes with temperature.
I've seen studies that show 0.3 at 20C and 0.26 at 1000C.. but I've seen in the same...
Eng-tips members,
I have measured friction coefficient of 85 duro mixed rubber compound with no waxes or lubricants on smooth steel - the result is roughly 0.5. I would like extrapolate that data to 60 duro friction same basic rubber compound and same substrate.
Thanks,
Jeff C.
Thanks for that info fuzzdoug. sorry i took so long to respond i did take the non linear class at Ansys in Ann Arbor, MI and I still can't get it solving.
I also pulled a help ticked and they are working on it.
FYI - Augmented helped but only solved it for a very small displacent. Also, you...
Eng-tips community, I'm sizing a throttle body and inlet hot and cold side vs the turbo inlet size, intake size, displacement, rpm. I'm an ME but I work on suspension not engines so please treat this like a noob question.
On a typical naturally aspirated engine larger throttle body seems to...
turns out i needed keyopt 6,1 snippet under the 'geometry' section. that makes hyperelastic work (incompressible).. w/o that it would not converge.
then i needed keyopt 9,0 under the frictionless interface section, that actually tells ansys that i am not making a mistake, i want to solve that...
Yes thats a great idea. I will let ansys do the 'installing' of the bracket over the bushing.
I need the entire model because of the variable reactions from the opposite side of this part. Also its not real that i have a bonded joint, need to figure out my non convergence issues with...
Hello the ultimate engineering forum, now that i have changed my focus from metallugry to fea - i need your help with rubber bushings in Ansys Workbench 13. I can get the solution to converge fine even with frictional contacts - no issues. However, i dont know where to start on the real...
I need to have both models shown in the 'project' directory in order to do a proper contact model via shrink fit. I can't even get to phase 1 because no matter what i do only one of my models shows up in the geometry section under the main project tree.
I can combine these using Designmodeler...
OK that was easy, i just re-loaded the parasolid back into solidworks, then saved AGAIN over the parasolid file a second time so it was a double saved parasolid and boom.. error gone!
hope someone else has the same issue and can benefit.
i think double saving the parasolid fixes some type of...
Hi, we now have an open Ansys license at work and I'm trying to get some work done before we can afford a class later this year.
Problem with an "invalid volume" error on solving.
using workbench trying to look at a sprung member in this case a suspension component. I used a parasolid input...
Update - the strain gage was fine all along, the adhesive also was good. The issue was that the strain i was measuring was much lower than expected, shows you that these 'thats strange' results are good to find.
the Vishay is performing well. Good question on the epoxy no shrink i just read...
Thanks IceStationZebra! i did the shut cal at 5000microstrain, and it read 4980 so i think its still spot on.. the glue is from grainger its no shrink epoxy.
do you know of a good fast epoxy to use? wish i had somethign that was super glue quick for instant cure to see srains right after...
I am using an old Vishay 350a unit to measure residual strains in zinc castings that are overmolded on steel bar. I glue on the gage, then cut off the casting to see how much it shrinks after the tension is relieved. For some reason, the results are coming up low.
Is there a reason why this...
I am changing over from Zamak 5 to ZA8 for additional creep performance and to mitigate some issues with hot tears due to a large steel core.
One question i can't answer is where is the extra aluminum going? Zamak5 and ZA8 are essentially the same alloy except ZA8 has 8% Al vs. only 4% for...
IDS, the outer boss is not constrained at the ends, its free to move. Also, the outer is in tension so we are saying it would either neck or not neck.
Also, whats interesting in this formula is how little effect poissson's ratio has. its only added or subtracted in the formula to a much larger...
electricpete.. thanks for that response. i agree with you and also think there is the issue of 'uncompressible' material that happens as the poissons ratio approaches 0.5, hence you can't squeeze it any more in a closed system.
Bestwrench, i am about to go through that derivation, however can...
The press fit force is a pretty cool equation that also incorporates poissons ratio. Here is a link to it.
My main question is why does increasing poissons ratio in the boss (outer ring of the pressfit, Eo above) reduce axial slip pressure, but when you increase poissons ratio of the shaft...
