Hi,
Is it possible to issure a purchase order for SA-516-70 with a stated elevated min. yield strength - and be able to establish an elevated allowable stress (ie, Sa = Sy x 2/3)?
This would of course be for higher temperatures where the yield governs Sa.
Thanks.
I am looking at what I think to be a customer spec that has not been updated in many years.
They are calling for a 1/4" threaded hole in a repad, per UW-15(c). I am wondering if this requirement was taken out of the code (similar to UG-25 a required specific corrosion allowance for certain...
Need help to what is turning out to be an elusive question.
We have female 3/4" NPTF threads (material SA-105) mating to a stainless steel (304/316) valve with NGT threads.
We are using Teflon tape.
Could someone tell me what the acceptable torque range is to install these valves - leak free?
We...
I have an ASME Sec VIII Div 1 pressure vessel.
Is the ASME tank close in design with respect to the BS 5500 code?
Or - depending on what aspect of design we are dealing with - some match up, and others don't?
Hello,
I'm looking to determine, for a given torque on a plug, tightened into a 3/4" NPT coupling - to calculate the circumferential stress. Trying to determine whether the fitting is experiencing permanent deformation.
Thanks
I appreciate your comments.
Double checking my post in the future would be a good thing.
The sentence -
"Now - for room temperature, which is well above -166F, would methane be at a higher temp using the PV=ZmRT?"
The word "temp" near the end of that sentence should be "pressure".
Thanks for...
Here's a situation that has me confused.
For Methane, I have a P vs T chart that shows a critical temperature of -166F, Pcrit = 668 psia.
Now - for room temperature, which is well above -166F, would methane be at a higher temp using the PV=ZmRT?
In reality, methane is pumped into pressure...
I have a supplier who has been providing aluminum tubes to B429(6063 alloy)aluminum.
He has asked why don't we use B221/6063?
I'm not sure I can find a difference...and if they are the same I will surely go with the cheaper B221.
We are talking specifically about 1/4" extruded pipe(B429)...
I am designing a blast chamber to contain potential failure of a pressure vessels tested with air. In order to do this, "the available energy released by isentropic expansion of the fluid from rupture conditions to one atmosphere" must be calculated. I'm more than a little rusty on thermo!

Tanks to AS 1210.
Does Australia now require a designer, and a verifier (to approve/take liability) - for ASME/AS 1210 pressure vessels?
I've done this route for cylinders (DOT type) - but wondered if an ASME Section VIII vessel could be allowed into Australia w/ the above approval approach?
