i am currently designing a glass enclosure (box) with spider connectors and swivel fittings. Any idea or suggestion on the engineering calculations? Is there a software for this? Thanks!
Completely enclosed with the bottom open. My concerns are the following:
- Need to calculate the deflection of the glass.
- Need to calculation the stress point of the glass (swivel hole).
- Need to calculate the spider connectors.
Is there a procedure of doing this engineering calculation on this structural glazing with spider connection?
Any reason you cannot use something like the CR Laurence glass connectors? You might want to consider setting out the specs for the enclosure and let the supplier provide you whatever calcs/info you require.
When I design glass, I use a FEA program with the actual support conditions to get a stress. Then I compare that to an allowable out of ASTM E-1300 - which is dependent on the type of glass.
Are you using annealed, heat strengthened, or tempered?
