thanks for some ideas guy. there will be little if any out of plane forces and the little bit of shear is very small compared to the size of the fastener (#10 bolts or about 0.19" diameter). the frame made of .25x.375" aluminum flat bar. on closer look it might only need to support 2-4 ft-lbs

I'm looking for fasteners for an aluminum flat bar frame that needs to be able to open and stay open. to visualize the situation, think scissor lift or convertible car roof structure. the fasteners must maintain a fairly constant clamping force, enough to support about 10 ft-lbs of torque, even...
PB500,
you ask why there are so FEW plants, yet we just shut down TWO in the US in late 2005 (Lyondell and Rubicon)..so I would say we had too MANY!
clearly MDI is taking market share from TDI and thus growth is low.
the effect of capital costs AND continuous capital investment is something...
some caustic producers remove sulphates during the purification process, but it is a settling process that can reduce yields if they try to get the levels too low. these are present at diferent concentrations depending the source for brine. try testing different suppliers or caustic made at...
i agree w/ pmover. it sounds like you have a typical raw natural stream, which can easily be purified w/ your everyday gas processing plant (i.e. remove ethane, propane, butane.....etc which can easily be sold to the petrochemical and heating/fuel markets.) this would likely be much cheaper...
I am looking into the damage potential for refinery/chemical pumps and motors that have been:
1) submerged in fresh water for more than a few days
and
2) submerged in salt water(or a salt/fresh mixture) for more than a few days.
Would every pump and/or motor be ruined? Or could some be...
i know of one refinery that injected walnut hulls to knock off the fines from the blades.. it didn't completely solve the problem but bought them some time. the expander failed later as it does about once a year, much to the delight of competing refineries in the area.
thanks all for the replies, i will be incorporating all of these responses for my drain system. my neighborhood has both surface and subsurface water issues. from sam's response and some more investigations, it looks like if I stay out of a 45 deg angle down from the foundation I will be OK...
ditto on the dangers of F gas floating around. i've worked with HF and we had to carry around antidote syringes with us. we were forbidden by code to use any glass in our process but I would check with one of the semiconductor equipment manufacturers (applied materials, novellus..) as they use...
as a chemical eng, the only thing i know about soil is not to spill any toxic chemicals on it. i was hoping for some cross discipline help on my latest project.
I am putting in a gravity french drain around my house to dry out my crawl space (6"-1' of standing water during big rains). they are...
