Pressure vessel leg and base plate design

Can someone point me to a method to calculate leg base plates with only two anchor bolts located within the flanges of the I-beam leg. See Bednar 2nd edition Figure 5.5. The value I calculate for C/ab is smaller than the value P1(d/2)/(a^2 b/6) so I cannot apply his method. He notes that in most...

Calculation of tube stresses when lifting a heat exchanger with a thin bellows

There is no problem adding shipping brackets but I'm just not convinced that they are required in most cases. Thanks for your comments. Regards Tom

Calculation of tube stresses when lifting a heat exchanger with a thin bellows

No, why have you? Someone smarter than I pointed out that my proposed method is invalid because the tubes do not act in unison to resist the shear flow due to the bending moment. So I'm back to square one.

TEMA type-P head - Packing Seating Stress

Thanks Mike. Some additional comments. 1. Since I posted that thread I've found the following paper online which gives some suggested values for y and an m=2.0. See attached file. 2. I find the required bolting to seat the packing is 40%+ higher than those given in TEAM Table RCB-5.22. 3. I've...

Calculation of tube stresses when lifting a heat exchanger with a thin bellows

My contention is that in most cases there is no need for shipping bars on the expansion joint for lifting the unit from the horizontal position because the tubes will take the load (not the expansion joint). Please refer to the attached sample calculations and let me know what you think. Thanks...

Calculation of tube stresses when lifting a heat exchanger with a thin bellows

Does anyone know of a method to check the stress in the tubes of a heat exchanger when lifting the unit from horizontal to vertical when there is a thin bellows expansion joint in the shell? I know the tubes will take the load but is there a method to determine the load on the tubes? Thanks...

TEMA type-P head - Packing Seating Stress

Hello Does anyone have experience with TEMA P-type heads with external packing? I am wondering about: 1. what the initial seating stress should be. 2. how to determine the amount of torque on the bolts when assembling the joint. 3. how much force is generated due to the friction between the...

Seal Strips for Long'l Baffles in Shell-and-Tube Heat Exchangers

I need to design a 2-pass and a split flow heat exchangers with longitudinal baffles in removeable bundles. Does any one have any details of the seal strips that run along the length of these baffles. Material is carbon steel. Thanks Tomtation

Courses for Thermal Design of Heat Exchangers

Can anyone point me to some good courses on thermal design of heat exchangers? I've taken Heat Transfer I & II in university but would like something more advanced.

FEA models in Algor or Inventor

EngAddict, you recommend modeling in Inventor beacuse you find modeling in Algor too cumbersome or for some other reason?
