I've defined a dummy material that is very stiff and extremely low density to simulate a rigid connection by using beams. This should solve your problem if you're not using WF3 yet.

I have had good success using simple sketches. The trick is to define datum planes such that the sketch end points line up if the elements are not in the same plane. Alternatively you could define the end points with datum points then use "point to point" when defining beams.

Thanks 3dlogix!
I used your manual method in conjunction with the "edit with Excel" feature to quickly set up my assemly-level part family.

Thanks,

Is there a way to create a family table that will select different versions of components? My example is an assembly file of a bearing. The two components are the inner and outer rings. Each ring is defined as a family table component. How would I set up the assembly file family table so I...
In response to many replies:
- I'm using SW2005
- I'm creating the planes, axes, and holes at the part level
- I am using the hole wizard to create the hole, but am using planes to define its location. I then pattern the hole by using a circular pattern and using the defined axis as my center...
I use planes to define the location of a bolt pattern on a flat plate frequently. If the plate is centered with respect to the 3 original construction planes, I offset 2 additional planes to the location where I want my bolt pattern center to be. I then create an axis at the intersection of...
I'll try to constrain the edge of the surface region as you suggested. I thought I had tried that earlier with no luck, but I'll make sure that I apply it more carefully.

d3ets - In response to your message:
If the constraints are full (no translation or rotation) the analysis works fine. However when I allow a degree of freedom (in either translation or rotation) I get the message that the constraints will be deleted.
When I created the surface region, I'm...
I am trying to model a thin strip of metal that angled about 45 degrees from horizontal. It is loaded along the top long edge, and is constrained at intervals along the bottom long edge. I am trying to see how the metal bows out at the ares where it is not constrained. I created surface...
I am looking to dispense a fluid at 520 degrees F (271 C). I would prefer to use a positive displacement pump that is capable of 3000 micro-liter deposits (+/- 10%).
The viscosity is 25-60 P at that temperature.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Tony
Thanks for the update. I don't need to model the interface resistance, but I do need Mechanica to realize that there are two different bodies made of different materials. Will it assume that if they are in contact when imported?
I am running Mechanica 2001 and importing Unigraphics models to perform thermal analyses (could be IGES also). How can I make 2 or more bodies of different materials contact each other and transfer heat between each other? I know it can be done if Mechanica and ProE are linked, but I don't have...
The stainless steel part I was referring to is a 304 series handle that would be attached to a sheet of cold rolled steel. This assembly would be put together in a generic shop, and I do not know what their capabilities are.
In summary, can these items be joined by a welding process that is...
