Weld holes in composite floor decking

What is the fix for 1/2" weld holes in 20ga. composite floor decking? Not what contractors usually do but a standard requirement this is a USACE project. Please provide the standard (SDI?) where I can find it. Thanks

    Standpipe vs. Riser

The 6" line that enters the building vertically through the slab is called what? I have always considered it a riser however someone else is arguing it's a standpipe.

    12" above FF

A question was raised if clearance is required where the pipe penetrates the slab. I cant find anywhere that requires clearance. ASCE 7 exempts chapter 9 of the NFPA 13 if in a seismic catagory B. 9.3 of the 13 is the only location that addresses the clearance requirements.

    12" above FF

Where does the NFPA code began in a commercial building I have been told Civil covers the service main until you get 12" above FF?

    Vertical reinforcement

Drawings show a 12" thick concrete wall indicating double #5 at 12"oc. The contractor installed the inside #5 bars offset from the outside #5 bars. I have always been taught to install the bars directly across from each other. The drawing does not have a top view of the wall therefore I have...

    Seismic requirements for catagory B?

I haven't reached a conclusion yet LOL. Just trying to figure it out. I know an engineer with TOLCO and have written him, I will let you know what he says. Thanks

    Seismic requirements for catagory B?

I agree that NFPA 13 chapter 9 complies with ASCE 7. I guess you may not understand my question. The designer does not show any restraining straps on the beam clamps. How is the designer in compliance with NFPA 13 without the use of restraining straps or branchline restraints? I can't find...

    Seismic requirements for catagory B?

Thanks Travis for the post. I think there is a lot of confusion among people that seismic only applies to C or greater and that is because other than what is deemed Life Safety it would not apply. Architectural components do not apply, MEP is exempt however I see no exception in ASCE 7 for...

    Seismic requirements for catagory B?

I am in a seismic B per approved drawings. To be in compliance with NFPA 13 you must still follow ASCE 7. An Importance Factor (Ip)must be given to all components. Life Safety per ASCE 7 is given an Ip of 1.5 requireing all Life Safety components to be constructed in compliance with ASCE 7...

    Seismic requirements for catagory B?

ASCE 7 13.1.3 states the Component Importance Factor for life safety purposes including sprinkler systems shall have an Ip 0f 1.5. I am requesting the contractor to follow chapter 9 on the NFPA 13. The contractor stated no seicmic is required for a seismic design catagory B. It is my...

    Define cored hole in masonry?

If the only reason is to isolate the pipe from cementitious material why do we allow sanitary waste vent pipe to be in grouted cells. I have always been told that a solid core acts as a sleeve only because it's solid. It's required on plumbing pipe because of structural(breakage) issues not...

Sprinkler lines being cored in wood ceiling joist?

The contractor is installing his 1 1/2" branchline through a core in wood ceiling joist. The cores are approx. 2", does this allow for the proper movement in seismic catagory C. Is there any bracing required since the movement is fairly restricted? I am use to seeing pipe supported from...

Fire dampers in wood floor joist?

I was recently ask can you install fire dampers in a wood floor joist system. The building is old and is having a change of occupancy that requires the floors to be rated between the 1st and 2nd floor. The membrane is 3/4" plaster on the ceiling side.

    Define cored hole in masonry?

Specifications call for all sprinkler piping to be sleeved unless cores are provided. My understanding of a cored hole would require the masonry to be solid if acting as a sleeve. The contractor says a cored hole is a cored hole solid or not. Does anyone know where I could find the defintion of...
