Guyed Flare Design -Y direction Force

Hello folks The problem is complex with a high degree of indeterminacy because of the elastic nature of the vessel components and guys. Mandeep pointed out one of the problems in that tension of the non-redundant guy imposes a vertical compressive force on the vessel. However, I have seen...

PD 5500 - Pressure Area Method for Openings under External Pressure?

Hello Crompto29 It would be remiss of me attempt to sell anything on this forum. That would be unethical and would defeat the objectives of the forum. Folk are free to choose the software that best suits them, and that is spirit and essence of any free market system. I apologise for not...

PD 5500 - Pressure Area Method for Openings under External Pressure?

Hello Crompto29 PV Elite does have provision for a studding outlet. There is a drop down list box where it can be selected. In PD 5500, the anlysis is base on the greater of the internal or external pressure. It is a different approach from the ASME method.

    rectangular storage tank tmin calculation

There is a very reliable method for evaluating rectangular tanks in the book: Pressure Vessel Handbook by Eugene Magyesy. I have used this method, and have found it to be simple an sound. Ray Delaforce

More than 2 saddle supports, Zick?

Yes, there is a published method. The European EN13445 pressure vesseal code addrsses this problem. In fact it considers a a larger number of saddles also.

    Best PV Design Software

The question simply asked: what software is appropriate for PD5500, ASME Div1, TEMA and any other codes. The issue of cost was also raised. If that is the question, then the answer should be framed accordingly. Firstly, PD 5500 is important to those wishing to enter the European market, being...

    Rectangular Tank Design

Iton IF the tank is an open top tank (you did not mention the specific design), and is to hold water, then Appendix 13 will not help you. An entirely different approach is required. If this is the case, then as someone above mentioned, the book by Megyesy will help you, but I have a simple...

    Roof Design

My friend, you are in for a long calculation. The requirements relating to the supported tank roof is discussed in detail in AP!-650. If the job is an expensive one, and you can bear the cost, you could invest in a neat piece of software called TANK by COADE (Phone 281-890-4566). This...

    Flange Rating

The original ratings of B16.5 flanges were formulated back in the times of yore (buried in the mists of time). There is no relationship between ASME VIII Div1 Appendix 2 and B16.5 pressure / temperature ratings. The code states that the pressure / temperature ratings of B16.5 may be used, and...

    Rectangular Tank Design

Hello Quark (what a great name!) Yes, there is a procedure. I you are willing to work your way through the ASME VIII Division 1 BPV code, in Appendix 13, you will find the complete procedure for a number of different configurations. The arithmetic is somewhat lengthy, but if you are patient...

    PV-CodeCalc Software

You could consider PVElite from COADE. It has a 3D interface where you can see the vessel as you 'build' it on the screen, and it is childishly simple to use. It also has a component module that allows you to desing heat exchangers to TEMA and ASME, as well a lot of other good stuff. It is...

    Old column

PAN, you need a standard against which to evaluate the remaining life of the unit (if indeed there is any life left). The modern method is to employ a fitness for service code such as API 579 to figure the remaining life or need for repair. There is software available to take the drudge out of...

    MAWP of WN Flanges

Hi zakk If you want to be on the safe side, use ASME VIII Division 1 Appendix 2 for the design of flanges. The values given in B16.5 are 'legal', but are based on parameters whose origins have been lost in the mists of time. If you know someone with CodeCalc software from COADE, bribe them to...

    Expansion Joint in Heat Exchanger

Try using CodeCalc by COADE. It has an expansion joint analysis for heat exchangers built into the sofware. You may find this useful. If you know anyone with this software offer them a beer in exchange for a design.

    Welding of 9% Nickel

Hi izamil I once worked for a company called RC Technical Welding & Fabrication, and a guy there called Raul Cardona (he's the President) but can weld anything to anything. Have a chat with him at 281-933-6004
