ECAP - material flows between the punch and the die?

I have a new problem. I am getting very high strains in a billet, where it is in contact with the die. It should not be like this. What may be the cause?

ECAP - material flows between the punch and the die?

Update: It works also with discrete rigid punch, but surface-to-surface contact must be defined also for sides of the tools. Previously I defined contact surface only for bottom surface of the punch.

ECAP - material flows between the punch and the die?

It works. Thanks FEA way. What helped was to replace the discrete rigid punch with the analytical rigid punch. Second thing, which was necessary is the use of surface-to-surface contact. Using the general contact generates errors. The next step is to add heat analysis to it. The problem is...

ECAP - material flows between the punch and the die?

Hello. I have a problem with modelling of ECAP (Equal Channel Angular Pressing) process. The problem is, that the mesh distorts heavily – it looks like the material (billet) flows between the punch and the die during the processing: The assembly is given below: The ECAP canal has 10 x 10...

Steel rolling process with large deformation - implementing ALE adaptive meshing

The frequency is set to 1 per increment, so it can't be increased more: The kinetic energy is relatively low:

Steel rolling process with large deformation - implementing ALE adaptive meshing

I am simulating a rolling process of steel. The model is 3D with symmetry planes in Y and Z directions. I am using Abaqus Explicit for this. The height reduction of the material is high - around 80%. The simulation runs successfully, however mesh elements deform heavily, so I want to use...

Abaqus 6.12 is running very slow suddenly

Try to manually download from website and upgrade your graphic card's drivers. It helped me.

Volumetric locking in CPE3T elements - possible?

Is it possible, that volumetric locking will occur during compression of CPE3T elements, if the material is elastic (without plastic behaviour)? The Poisson ratio of the material is 0.3.

    Time Increment in DFLUX subroutine

How can I get the time increment in DFLUX subroutine? There is no variable DTIME there. I thought about using some kind of substraction equation where I substract a variable containing total time at the end of the previous increment from the actual total time TIME(2). Do you have any idea how...

Different mesh density on the individual part

Mustaine, I did what you said. I enforced local mesh seed to two cells. Aprproximate element size was 5 and 1 respectively. I marked option: "Do not allow the number of elements to change". After that, when I tried to mesh the part, the message showed up: Did I something wrong...

Different mesh density on the individual part

I see. How can I do it with the partition? It is good that Tie will be added automatically, because it will save a lot of time. And saving time is the purpose why I started this topic.

Different mesh density on the individual part

Hello, Look at the figure: Here are two parts TIE'ed together and the mesh densities on them are different. Is it possible to obtain the same results using one part with partitions? I tried to do that, but I can only change the number of elements on the thickness of partitions.
