I agree with the assembly set up but my client wants it modelled this way for now.
I'll use "make part" or "make component".
I just wish the software writers would add the ability to turn off solids in a view or allow selection of certain design configurations.

Although....Note to SolidWorks....Not as easy as in Catia where you can simply right click on a feature and break history. I find this usefull when it helps me to reduce uneeded construction surfaces during quick concept model building.

In order to save using multiple models (Two parts and an assembly model), I would create the two pieces in the same model with "merge result" unchecked.Go to the bodies folder, select the two bodies and combine (subtract), to get your result.
