So if I use tapered diaphragm...that means having a variable spacing of the exterior and first interior girder all along the length of the bridge?

I was thinking of modeling the beams as a system of small (may be 5') curved beams (STAAD has capility to define curved members) joined together. Essentially all software model curved beams as such (to my best knowledge). Also
I will have joints at diaphragm locations so that I can...
Thank you all for your thoughts.
Qshake: I agree that diaphragms are primary members for this case.
Please elaborate on what would you consider while modeling diaphragms? How the stiffness and location/orientation of diaphragm could affect how the girders will behave? Any thoughts...
Yeah, but if you think about it...it is a simple supported span. The mid span deflection is directly proportional to lspan lenght to the power 4.
5/384 * w * l**4 /EI
My outside girder is 10' shorter then the inside. How would you convince that the shorte girder would deflect more? Due to some...
I am using an inhouse program? Would you recommend any particular software which is better over others?
Have you experienced anytime: that shorter girders have more deflections (just beacuse they are on outside of the curve?)

I have attached a pdf of the bridge. It shows all girders with two supports and edge of deck, gutterlines etc.
I am sorry, the girders are not all same radius. I intented to call them concentric and mistakenly called them same radius. They are at a spacing of 7'-8" constant not variable along...
In other words rigid diaphragm takes the stresses/loads due to differential deflections of the adjacent girders?
Correct me if I am wrong.
Also my question is still unanswered...why the outer girder is delfecting the lost, although it is shortest? Is this normal?

I have a question regarding the deflection of curved girders. The bridge I am working on:
Has skewed supports (not radial)
Supports are not parallel to each other
Span is a simple span (167’ longest girder, 158’ shortest girder)
The supports are skewed such that the outer girder is actually...
I have desgined a bridge (rehabilitation) with abutments similar to what is described by Qshake. The abutments were called as cellular abutments. It has two separate footings on piles about 15' apart. The footings were joined together at intervals with thin walls forming cells. The cells were...
Hi,
I am creating points in land desktop using the manual option from Point Menu. The strange thing that ia happening is the points are created with correct northing and easting values but are drawn at incorrect location in drawing.
And when I use these points to build my surface and create...
I have gone through all the threads and there is bunch of information about doing consulting business which is not related to any specific field. And all this information is really great.
But I specifically wanted to ask if anybody has done or doing consulting for bridge and raodway design...
Thanks ..but I can not find any thread specifically related to bridge/highway design consulting. Please help me out. May be I am not using the right search method.
would appreciate a link to relavant threads if anybody can.
Thanks,

Is there anybody out there who is doing or can give advice about doing consulting for bridge/roadway/highway design/drafting?
What are the obstacles, legal issues, basic needs...or anything you can suggest?
I would really appreciate any input/guidance/advice/thoughts.
Noopur Jain...
Sorry for the spelling....here is the corrected one!
