    Basics of FEA

"FEA should be thought of as correlation to your hand calcs and presenting pretty pics to management." Haha! So true. All they want is a 'yes' or a 'no', and a pretty picture. Often time, the two don't even need to relate!

    simply supported boundary conditions

I agree. Not enough information. Are these something like bridging a gap between tables? Or mounted in concrete? You could need a roller, a pin, or a full encastre condition. There is just no way to tell.

    Writing Marcos

I use notepad++ as my py editor, and it has all the entries on separate lines already. I forget which, either notepad or wordpad, but one of them has a problem reading carriage returns and line breaks for me, replacing them with little rectangles. Try Notepad++. It rocks.

    Expressions Spreadsheet Updating

Oh sweet deal. Thats a tiny little button quite a bit out of the way. Musta passed over it at least a dozen times. haha Thanks everyone!

    Expressions Spreadsheet Updating

Hey everyone. I'm caught on a bit of a snag and the CAST seems to be a bit outdated. Thanks for any help you can offer. I'm trying to use the spreadsheet edit function in my expressions window to update some values. I'm running Excel 2007 and NX6. Opening up my expressions window, I click the...

    Simulation of powder compaction

Ok. So you just make sure not to displace it enough to store any resistance (or at least minuscule amounts) on the force applicator. Primarily, you just need to make sure that you aren't forcing in displacement against a spring force greater than your desired application force, right? That makes...

    Understanding a User Subroutine

I know the 1.D0 is a way of writing a double precision number in scientific notation in Fortran. The D is like E, but E is single precision. So 1.D0 actually means 1*10^0, or the value 1. Arcsign of 1=pi/2 I think COORDS was assigned a value by the first line. Abaqus will pass in a line of...

    Simulation of powder compaction

Sounds like you need to encastre the die and the piece under the powder, and displacement BC the die. The powder can be held in my a gravity loading. Jlog50, Quick question about your response as it may be something I've been looking for. When you switch from displacement to force control, do...

How to rigid a surface and apply B.C. on edges of surface together

How are you making only a a part of an object rigid?

How to Plot Loading against Deflection graph

continuing on: 4. use Combine (X,X), the X axis being the first input and the Y data the second.

    Naming a partitioned cell

6.10? If yes, you can use cut planes on the model in CAE and grab it. If not, you could always brute force it and dig your way in by removing the outer cells from the viewport bit by bit.

X-Y Data Grid Options in Viewer

Yeah, that is usually my fall back plan, but it is nice to make the pretty pictures when the graphs are time synced in a movie with the deformation and what not. The grid system is really not that big of a deal, its more for the pretty presentation factor, but it seems like its such an easy...

X-Y Data Grid Options in Viewer

Hey all. Quick question that the documentation doesn't seem to address about plotting X-Y data in Abaqus Viewer. I'm currently using 6.10-1 if it makes a difference. When I'm plotting multiple lines of data that use different units on one graph, it seems like it chooses the primary Y axis and I...

Adding parts in Abaqus (in 2d)

Or if you want to make it one single part, use the Shape toolbar in the part module to create the objects.

    Create part from xyz data

I don't believe you can in Abaqus. This is more a Unigraphics task, something more intended and powerful at surface modeling. Can you achieve you intended shape with the draft or twist extrude features?
