    Underground Firewater pipe-No Cement lining

Hello, We have a situation that the contractor has installed an underground carbon steel fire water pipe that goes to a hydrant. The pipe is wrapped but it is not cement lined. I am trying to find any statement in AWWA standards (C205 maybe) that approves the pipe material. I have already...

    Tank Anchorage Ratio "J" Formula

JStephen, I am designing 3 tank foundations in California. So, yes it is a high seismic zone. I have checked my spreadsheet calculations with a few engineers from Fluor and some other companies. Seems like nobody is sure about this equation. They all agree that the units are off though...

    Tank Anchorage Ratio "J" Formula

Hi folks, Does anybody know if Ge, used in Wa fomula (E.6.2.1.1-1b)is supposed to be the fluid density instead of the specific gravity? If Ge used as specific gravity, then the units don't match up in Wa formula and you almost won't find any API 12 tank which is stable. Any comments would...

    ACI 350.3R

Hi Fellow engineers, Can anyone tell me if using ACI 350R.3R is mandated by code (i.e. IBS, CBC, ASCE, etc.) for the design of dynamic machinery foundations. Thanks a lot

Flood Load on Ring Wall Foundation

Hi everybody, I am designing a ringwall foundation for a 30' dia tank on an AE coastal zone in California and I need to include flood load in my foundation design. What would be the right reference to use? ASCE 7-05, Caltrans BDS, or ASCE 24? any comment would be appreciated. The flood load...

Flood load calculations on ringwall foundation

Hi, I am designing a ringwall foundation for a 30' dia tank on a coastal zone in California and I need to include flood load in my foundation design. What would be the right reference to use? ASCE 7-05, Caltrans BDS, or ASCE 24? any comment would be appreciated. The flood load elevation is 20 ft.

Do you recommend SS bolts for marine environment?

CoryPad, HILTI says they cant coat the "threads" well. And we are trying to avoide field coating if possible. Thanks a lot for the comment and the resources though.

Do you recommend SS bolts for marine environment?

Once the rack is installed, it'll be their for next 20 years or more. but do I need to coat the bolts with paint after installation? the bolts are hot-dip galvanized (1.8 mils, 45 mu.m)

Do you recommend SS bolts for marine environment?

Hi Everyone, Is there any issue with using ss bolts for connections of a small steel rack that will be placed on an existing offshore platform. The rack is made of galvanized HILTI girders and is poweder coated. Since we cant coat the bolts, we are going to use stainless steel bolts. the...

Seismic Design Force on Pipe Supports

Hi Folks, I've designed a few steel pipe supports in refineries in accordance with CBS-07 and ASCE7-05 section 12-8 and chapter 15 (i.e chapter 15.4-2, Inverted pendulum type). But now I am just wondering if I've been using a right method of analysis. does anyone know if I should use Chapter 13...

    Pipe trench vs. Pipe Sleeve???

Pennpiper, The refinery is located in Rodeo, California and the road is inside the refinery but it is a main road that big trucks with very heavy loads such as big vessels can go on that and the road is 16' wide which I said 16' long by mistake. what would you recommend now? Thank you very much

    Pipe trench vs. Pipe Sleeve???

Hi everybody, we are designing pipes in ConocoPhillips refinery and a 3-inch sour water pipe needs to cross a road which is subject to a very heavy traffic. Does anyone know if there is any reason (i.e. inspection,...) we can not use sleeves instead of a trench. the road is 16 ft long. another...
