I am a supplier, but I think it is good to get some ideas before doing a proper failure analysis to make sure if that is needed.
Thanks for so many advises.
Is that anyone know how CLR and CTR been calculated in a HIC test?
My test results said the orientation of the crack cannot resolved by the UT scan, what is that mean?
The test is per NACE TM0284, sample is heattreated machined and polished before testing. I am not familier with the test.
Thanks
Good morning.
I have a ASTM F65 material, which is a low carbon steel.
It has been encountered a HIC crack during the testing, the crack is 40mm long and due to the orientation, it constitutes a failure.
The chemical has passed which is a quite clean material. What other reason can cause this...
Yes I agreed that the dimensional control is better and
microstructure is more uniform. But the tesile strength at the thinner section is not high enough as required.
thanks
davefitz,
Can you suggest a commercial finite element program please?
Thanks
To arunmrao,
250 pound sterlings is small, but I have 6 different sizes. And it is cost time and this is only a small part of the project. Thanks for your advise.
Thanks for all your advise,
The problem is that I will have several different size and shape. That is why I can not try my direct waste a large block. And also it will cost me 250pound unless I wait unitil the next time when I heat treat all the parts. And that is too late for me.
For the...
I have a large block of steel need to have heat treatment experiment on. But how can I calculate or stimulate the heating/cooling rate of the centre of a large componment?
It is a 6 inch cube, heating at 960C.
Thanks
Thanks very much for your advise I have got something similar. However, the diagram did not gave any detail of the phases. How to understand it?

I have a component been quenched and tempered at 580C
The material did not pass the impact test, would a 650C retempering make any difference?
What is the difference between a direct tempering at 650C and tempering at 580C and retempering at 650C?
It is a low carbon steel, very low alloy...
As a lot of post say the bad quanlity of the images.
I have retake the microgaphs this time by myself, please have a look again I think it is much clearer!
The scale bar is not working at the moment.
Thanks
This is the 580C...
