    Maximum width of shell inserts

A client's flat bottom water storage tank is corroded and requires repair. The tank is 12m diameter, 9m tall. Over half the circumference of the shell to bottom weld is cracked and corroded, including the first 100mm or so of shell which requires replacement. API653 does not specify the...

De-rating the strength of bolts due to galvanizing

Thanks for the comments guys, Correct - the mechanical properties (AS4291 are identical to ISO 898-1) These flanges are being installed on cement lined pipelines, maximum operating temperature of the water is 50degC so I dont expect the bolts to even reach that.

De-rating the strength of bolts due to galvanizing

Hi there, What are peoples thoughts on de-rating the tensile strength of bolts which have been galvanised? I am designing multiple flanges which will be assembled using AS4291 / AS1110 Grade 8.8 bolts which will be galvanized. I realise that hydrogen embrittlement generally occurs in bolts...

EN1591 Flange Design - Visual Vessel Design (VVD) or alternative?

I am increasing the thickness because I am designing flanges which are outside of the given pressure ratings in 1092. For example a PN40 DN1200 flange. The table in 1092 for PN40 only goes up to DN600. Yes iterations are required in my Mathcad calculation (it iterates to find FG0 and bGe)...

EN1591 Flange Design - Visual Vessel Design (VVD) or alternative?

Hi All, I have noticed a few people out there are using VVD by Ohmtech. Could someone please let me know if the software has the capability to solve (determine) the flange thickness for a non-standard flange design? Or if there is any other alternative software that can do this? I am designing...

Properties for CS Plate - AS1548-1-430

Thanks for the response guys, I have since found out that the 430 is indeed the tensile strength, and AS1210 used a factor of 4 for the allowable (108 MPa). Only unknown is the yield strength, I am hoping it shouldn't be too different to AS1548-7-430 from that era also. Cheers Damian

Properties for CS Plate - AS1548-1-430

G'Day, Would anyone know the material properties for old Carbon Steel Plate (AS1548-1-430). In particular I am after the tensile strength, Yield Strength and design allowable stress (MPa). The plate was used in a heat exchanger designed to AS1210-1977 (Pressure Vessels). Could anyone tell...
