A continuous weld is what the employer would like to have all the time.
An intermittent weld is when the welder has regular breaks for a smoke or a chat with the guy working beside him. [pipe]
jm2804,
No, it will not require re-qualification.
API 1104 Clause 5.4.2.2 notes "b" Specified minimum yield strength - not actual yield strength.
The specified minimum yield strength for X60 as per Table 3 of API 5L is 60,000 psi minimum with 82,000 maximum.
As long as you have definitely been...
Stanweld,
Thank you for the response but it hasn't helped me understand.
If I qualify a PQR with an electrode (ER70S-6) that has a batch certificate showing Mn of 1.40 then I can class it as an A-1 or A-2 (how do you decide if it is actually A-1 or A-2 ?)
What if I have a PQR/WPS that states A-1...
Metengr,
Can I possibly ask for assistance with understanding the chemical composition requirements please.
SFA 5.18 ER70S-6
SFA 5.28 ER80S-D2
Both wires comply with QW 442 A-1, A-2 & A-11 for C, Cr, Mo & Ni
A-1 & A-2 list a maximum Mn of 1.60
SFA 5.18 ER70S-6 lists an allowable range of...
zdas04,
My sincere apologies for hijacking your post but wanted to respond to Staniers comments.
Stanier,
Your comment that the Australian pressure piping code - AS 4041 is not based on ASME is a bit strange as the Foreword of AS 4041 states ASME B31.1 & B31.3 are a major source of material...
zibaeng,
You ask an impossible question.
The code or standard you are working to tells you the requirements for impact testing.
Materials, thicknesses, MDMT etc will determine whether impact testing is required by that specific code or standard or not,

Kiwi
Silje,
It is your responsibility to design (and manufacture if in your scope)as per your contract and contract specifications.
If there are additional requirements (eg. called up in AS 1210)or other Australian regulations it is your customers responsibility to request compliance.

Gen B,
Does not have to be on code construction work - can be on a tin can or a tractor or an instrument.
Obviously from an employers (or clients) perspective coded work would be preferable but not required by the ASME IX code,

Kiwi
XL83NL,
Does this help ?
http://cstools.asme.org/CodeCases.cfm
Just enter the Code Case number and it tells you when it was approved and whether it has been annulled yet

Jorge,
You are in a difficult position and the only person who can adjudicate is the Owner or the Owners Engineer.
The project inspector is only giving you his opinion.
9.1.1 The basis for repairs and alterations shall be an API

Thanks Weldtek,
As it is Non Mandatory P-Numbers does that mean they are classed as Assigned or Un-Assigned materials ? (Or is that Listed or Unlisted materials ?)
Cheers,
