Thankyou, interesting way to do it. do you use certain types of epoxy?
Are there any plastics that are also suitable? eg, nylon, acetel, as these are easy enough to source. I would be suprised if plastics arent used!

arunmao, By epoxy (araldite being a trade name) are you saying to take a mold from the orgiginal wood pattern or machining from a block? ive never seen a solid block of epoxy.
My experience in epoxy is for laying up molds using carbon, kevlar and fibregrass.

How far along have ceramic coatings developed for internal combustion come along?
I can see an electronicly controlled ceramic diesel being interesting for some applications.

The patterns are small, approx 6 in Sq, and have quite a bit of detail in them. I would like to use metal but machining them will take forever, there being done on a homebuilt cnc mill.
I will be starting with petrobond sand molds and move onto a phenolic bonded sand if i need higher volumes...
What are the best choices for a machinable plastic for use as a casting pattern, used in sand castings.?
Wood is commom, but i would like something that is a little more robust.

Cory, no real pressure involved. Its for RC engine carbys.
Its common knowledge that 2 similar metals can gall, and Aluminium can be very bad. I have no idea with Anodised parts tho.
Vibration is the biggest thing, cant balance a single cylinder, and at up to 30,000 rpm, these things...
If i hard anodize a small eg, 3/4 inch barrel and also the housing it rotates in, will they be prone to galling? same alloys. Fit is not critical, as long as there free to turn easily. Will be subject to vibration and fuel oil mixture.

Thanks rgmotorsports!
Looks like a phone call will be needed to see if they still do the Big Red oil. Ive tried a few different oils for nitro/methanol mixes and this is the best by a country mile!!
Rumour i heard was its based on Union Carbide UB 625 ?

Im listening! but i cant learn without asking.
So the design has major flaws, i wasnt too far off, asking how one Fet could handle all that current. It Cant.

Is this a good design? The current can be increased easily, maybe the voltage also with a Lm317 in place of the 7812.
What does have me interetsed is the single FET, i cant see how it could be a PWM circuit, so can the single FET handle it?

I think i have had a short circuit in my brain!
I have rewound the transformer so i have 38V DC output, to protect the 317.
This lower voltage will fine for my mostly small jobs, anything larger will just take much longer.
Any opinions on this circuit ive found...
