We don't have room at the switchyard so this isn't a possible solution anymore.
Our system peak is around 1450 MW.
I assume this 3% rule of thumb is only for banks that switch in and out frequently? I beleive that most of our cap banks our switched in or out maybe 2 or 3 times a year.
What limits you on how big of a cap bank you can install at a 69 kV switchyard? I have 18 MVARS already at a switchyard and an 6 additional would help resolve a problem but I am being told that 24 MVARS is quite a bit on a 69 kV system.
These same issues were brought up when I went to the OTC convention in Houston. There is a big push to move to wireless by the vendors for refinery controls. No one in the industry is very hot on replacing something they know works. I can see it being used for simple non-safety applications...
I congratulate you on taking an assignment that isn't easy. Nothing makes me sicker than people who gloat or criticize based on the fact that they are batting 1.000 with cookie cutter projects.
Thanks for replying trol.
One part that got that got left out of my post was that with the spreadsheet method a certain MVA flow is assumed. The losses are calculated based on the assumed MVA flow. I was wanting to use a simulator to calculate this because I felt this completely neglected...
I am trying to determine if it is worth while to install a larger conductor based on savings due to reduced losses. I thought this might be worthwhile looking into because the cost difference between a 336.4 and a 1590 transmission line per a mile is only 70k.
At the company I work for, the...
I would agree. Document everything and try to find another position in the company or elswhere. I am afraid you'll take some of the blame even though you were just following your superior when the shit hits the fan.
I got in a discussion with someone about repairing transmission lines. I know you can work on a live line if you are dropped on with a helicopter. I could have sworn ,though, that in China they have a method of getting up and onto live lines (more than once!) without using a helicopter. Am I...
Anyone else notice how people do certain things while layoffs are looming?
The one that kind of gets my beef is all of a sudden people start bringing in their wives or their kids to work. I don't have kids so it rubs me the wrong way.
There is a study guide by Lindberg that is pretty solid. If you can work through 75% of that, you'll be set for the exam. I took it a little over 2 years after graduating and nothing on the exam is difficult. It is just a lot of stuff. If someone fails it is more so a failure in preparation...
