All welding processes will be manual, no GMAW. We intend on using a calibration blocks developed from the same material, diameter and thickness as the weld.

I am trying to understand this case; is it one of alternative acceptance criteria or is it alternative technique?
We are trying to employ PAUT on 31.3 piping using the given acceptance criteria for UT in 31.3. However this code case was brought up in discussions and it was...
Possible lay a boiler up during low steam demads, or have a look at your firing system, and maybe make some modifications which would enable a high and low fire. Sounds like your boilers have only one setting and provide to much heat in your low demand times.
Is there any possibility the valve is just a "start-up" by pass to equalize pressure around the gate, and make opening the valve easier? I have had little exposure with bonnet drains in the power industry. But your description sounds like a bypass with the exception of bonnet (could be body)...
If you could put your hands on ASME CSD-1 Controls and Safety Devices for Automatically Fired Boilers, could help you. I haven't looked for some time but I think it speaks to fan capacity and furnace volumes.
Due to the variety of service conditions and various designs of pressure relief valves, only general guidelines can be given regarding differentials between the set pressure of the valve and the operating pressure of the vessel.
After a self-acuated release of pressure, the valve must be...
You might want to take a look at the heat input change. The increased heat content will have an affect on the safety valves releiving capacity. The valves may now be undersized.
Cold end corrosion should be considered.
pve5,
I was a past inspector for the boilers branch in New Brunswick. I would avoid anything but the specified standard listed in Regulation.
If it's non pressure then use what makes sense.
