Depending upon the HP of the drives, it is cheaper to retrofit new control onto the existing scr bridge. We call this a "front end" retrofit....usually about 100 hp and up.
TMGE makes very versitle digital front ends that will easliy do this application.
Versapro is scheduled to be replaced by Machine edition, but if you are able to use DOS, LM90 cna be found free on a versa-pro demo disc. Call GE supply and see if they still have any kicking aroud.

Kt is the constant you want, and a PM motor is analogous to a shunt wound motor.
A shunt wound motor will have better speed regulation, work better with a DC drive, but for heavy loads, the compund motor is the way to go.
