"I can't stand people who are my superior, but who I view to be less competent than me."
"Because there are at least two people above me who want to be in control."
Well, not only do they want to be in control, they are SUPPOSED to be in control. They ARE in control, if all goes well. That's why...
Dear all,
I'm looking for a way to quantify the cost to increase a hydrotreater inlet temp by 1 degree.
Specifically, I am at a loss of how to correlate the megwatts per ton of feed required to heat up +1 degree to the cost of the associated fuelgas per ton reactor feed.
I am not working in...
"how to deal with difficult customers who (1) don't understand technical issues and (2) just want to get a free service or (3) empty out their anger"
(1) Well then explain them in simple terms. Not every customer is a technical person.
(2) If that's what they after and you want to keep them...
At my previous employer we had a paper system that worked pretty neatly. The MOC process is supposed to be a funnel, first nothing should bypass it, then all you have to get right is the inputs and outputs.
Nothing should bypass it = have a very clear definition of what a change is and write it...
I think as long as you have enough self-control to be positive and not be bitter or sarcastic about your current employer, the best approach is total honesty.
I hate it when people give me a politically correct BS answer just because they think they are supposed to give a politically correct BS...
And you will want to check all trays and measure all critical dimensions AGAIN just before closing the tower, in case of erroneous installation or damage during transport (in case of trays installed in tower off site).
I am a vendor :-) Let me show you the situation on the other end of the phone line.
If I deliver 1 day late I can cause a multi M$ cost (oil refining is big money and nowadays bigger than ever). And again on day 2. And again on day 3...
I don't even look at some 5% clause in a contract...
This is all quite scary. I would really focus on keeping the water out, or it will become normal to have water in the flare and you will be one step closer to a major catastrophe.
What can Boeing do differently... well...
- try to sell in Euros
- introduce language problems and conflicting nationalistic feelings in the management team
- maximise government influence in order to have politicians fat fingers all over the business, each pursuing their own national interests...
It's a bit of a pity in engineering eyes to use -175 to cool from 50 to 30-35, isn't there any cooling water available to do it more cheaply? Or you might consider an air cooler if you're not located in the (sub)tropics.
The global SHOULD go in management by definition IMHO and the detail minded should stay in hands-on positions, nothing worse than a manager who messes with details...
As in IRstuff's example, a manager who insists that I design the best brakes in the world, while I struggle to see how I will...
sepehrofsharif, are you interested in the cost of the vessel itself or the cost of a project to install a new reactor in an existing plant? Expect a factor 2-10 difference between the two.
