I have a retaining wall close to a railroad, and I have figured out the vertical load using the Bousinesq equations. I was wondering how you guys add in the Vertical load? If a surcharge, do you take the whole amount, or do you distribute down through the soil?

Thanks. Like I said, this was not my design, just looked fishy not having blocking or bracing. Some longer spans too, looked to be 20+ feet.

Not sure on this, been a while for wood design. Does code require that roof rafters have blocking between them? I saw a building with looked like 2x12 rafters, no blocking at all. Did have hurricane hold downs, so this was the roof.

I wouldn't think so...how does it know which way its developed when tension is on the bar? The hook just needs to be developed properly in my mind.

I wouldnt think that cutting rebar would matter, i would put the anchors at the top and bottom, depending on the look, the bottom could just be a pin into the footing, and not into the wall. At the top, who cares, the moment is 0ish, thus no cracking to worry about? How tall are the panels

Glass isnt especially good in tension, so not sure how you would get that to work....I guess plans will be the storyteller

I would start with the supplier, or mfg. of it. I googled it and didnt find much. Try Duro wall, they make some too

I would not use drill in anchors. use Embed plates cast in. If this is existing, and you have to drill, core drill and use epoxy type anchoring system

Is there anyway you can use steel, and isulate it from any induction heating?

Why not a precast lintel, pour before and lift into place and grout? You could form it up on site to fit perfectly.

dcarr827775, look at it when in tension, the vertical component of the angle is going to cause bending of the angle at the bolt.

I Agree, wouldnt you have a vertical and horizontal component at the end of the angle? It would cause some bending on the leg

So your wall is unreinforced, but there are bars shown going into the footing? how tall are these bars?
