    Radiographic Test

When considering code requirements, every code paragraph should be considered mandatory unless an exemption exists that will permit construction without meeting the requirements.

    Ex Post Facto Impact Testing

If you need material for impact testing, install a 4" nozzle. The cutout should be sufficient for testing samples. eliebl

Correct stress value for steel A36

If no data is available to determine the type of steel then I would be hesitant to do any calculations. I would probably run away, very far away.

    Steam Boiler Damage

At first glance it appears that this was a case of overpressure. The fire tube is external pressure design. It there was a slight out of round then all bets are off. External pressure relies heavily on stability and not so much on strength. I once chased down how the code rules were...

History of registering pressure systems in Canada?

Is there a particular question that you are trying to answer? The fitting registrations expire after 10 years. There is no expiry on vessel design registrations (unless the a code change makes the design non-compliant) and piping registrations are usually for single systems, tied to the...

    Don't forget UHA-51(e)(2).

    Salary after P.Eng.

APEGGA's survey is conducted yearly and available at www.apegga.ca. The companies I have worked for typically give some sort of change in salary when a P.Eng. is attained.

USA built pressure vessel to be installed in Canada, reqs?

If it is to be installed in Alberta please go to www.absa.ca. You should get a quick overview there.

    Ug-101 m tensile values

I guess this depends upon the material used. If the material specification shows an upper limit then it would appear that this is permitted. If the specification does not impose an upper limit they you would need to take tensile specimens.

    Overcoming Obstacles and....-Some Thoughts

All Good Points. My philosophy about woork goes like this: I come to work to do a job that I was hired for. I am not employed here to like you but it helps. Let's focus on the job, get the work done. I have been very fortunate that I have yet to meet some one that I cannot work with. ejl

    U stamp on pressure vessels

You may have a clause in ASME VIII div 1 which states that it may be exempted from the requirements of the code book but have you considered the requirements of CSA B51 of the Alberta Safety Codes Act? Pretty much every jurisdiction would have a law which states that you need to use some code...

    UG-45 minimum nozzle thickness

Nozzle min wall comes from two calculations. First and formost is the thickness required for pressure. Then a check needs to be done to be sure that it meets the requirements of UG-45. If the end of the nozzle is threaded, the thickness available for either calculation is the minor diameter...

    UG-45 minimum nozzle thickness

With the Victaulic connections be sure that they are acceptable per Appendix 24. It should be noted that this is a mandatory appendix. As for UG-45 minimum thickness, this would apply to the entire nozzle length. Essentially where it changes from vessels scope as a nozzle to piping scope. If...

    Recent Volcano Greenhouse Gases

If my recollection of my geology courses is correct, the amount of CO2 from the Icelandic volcanoes would not be significant. These volcanoes are located at divergent plate boundaries where simple magma is rising to the surface due to parting of the mid atlantic ridge. When volcanoes like Mt...

    UCS-66(b) Reduction For SA-106 Gr. B

I wouldn't try impact testing SA-106 B. It's very unlikely that it would pass. SA-333 gr6 is acceptable under UCS-66(g). EJL
