Hi,
In a 12kV campus loop setting - how is the transformer protected again short circuit? how is the transformer primary protected?
What protection does the Bayonet fuse provides? what protection does the Current Limiting Fuse in the transformer provides?
Thanks,
@Waross: Thanks for the feed back. There is a considerable cost to run the neutral.
@ RRaughunath - Correct the generator is directly connect to the step-up transformer. The plan is to Earth at the generator. Thank you!
Hi,
We are trying to back up a 12kV service with 480V Generator. We have a 12kV-480Y/277V transformer that we are utilizing. The question is if we need to extend the neutral conductor from the generator to the transformer?
Thanks in advance
Not to hijack this tread, but I have a similar question with different voltage. We have a 12kV campus loop and the question came up regarding sizing of the surge arrester at a 12kV-480V step down transformer. There was debate on whether to size the arrester at 9kV ((12kV/1.732) * 1.3) or 12kV...
First of all, thank you guys for the great responses. It is always good to know what other professional have to say base on their experience.

First of all, I think we do provide a very good service to our clients and they admit it too. It is just that they rather give us the pad...
I totally understand what you are talking saying about architects. Just recently we had to stop sending out information/drawing for a job that was done because the architect had not paid for 2 projects that were done almost a year ago. He claimed that he has not gotten paid from the owner. So...
I am an engineer in a small MEP Consulting firm (15 people). The other day I had a conversation with the CEO of the company which was complaining about not being able to collect money from the clients. Now the company has been in business for 25 years. I was just wondering if any other...
Thanks for all your help.
jghrist,
you are right I am looking for the design cost rather than the construction. Is there a way to estimate how much the client is willing to spend on the design? Or can you estimate the cost based on the something like square footage or total construction...

I have a question regarding the required experience needed to take the PE exam. Currently I am attending graduate school in Midwest. At the same time I am working with a MEP company out in California. Basically I am doing their lighting, single line diagrams, …. All these are ofcourse being...
Personally I would rather to work for a high tech company, but as you said I have learned that what you want to do is not what you will end up doing. I like anything to do with engineering, so it does not really matter. In school I am more focused on embedded systems. I am considering the MEP...
I am about to graduate from school with MSEE. As Far as the job options are concerned, I have a choice between a government/militry job (ex. SPAWAR, San Diego), a high tech company (ex. Qualcomm), or a private MEP Consulting firms (Which by the way is owned by my relative). If you had choose...
